NIce shot Frogfish! I've seen a number of cool photos of these cormorant fishermen from different photographers.. so I wonder, do people pay them to get them to pose for the photo? Doesn't take anything away from the photo, I'm just curious if that's their livelihood more so than their fishing.
Thanks TS !

There are a number of ways, and locations (not all on the same river as this tradition used to be quite widespread in the South of China). Often they are close enough to the river banks that a long lens will more than suffice, you can get round trips out to the shoals next to where they fish, in rivers and seasons where it's safe (which is what I did here, the boatmen split the fee with them), or you can actually hire them to pose for shots (some are found doing this next to popular tourist locations - but those are really corny). They are actual fishermen, who also do this on the side, though the tourist trade probably pays them more than they can make fishing and is actually helping to keep this tradition alive.

Shame, have my eye on that lens, looks like a lot of bang for the buck and certainly easier to carry around than a fast telephoto zoom. Nothing wrong with those images

Two from me, first is Thanksgiving Chapel in Dallas and the second a random half naked guy in Grand Central.

No, i mean it was great for these things and it's fit nicely into my collection i guess. I love doing portraits and it did a pretty good job at that. However, i havent really had much luck doing too many portraits and ive had my eye on the metz af52 I will def acquire a similar lens when i start working. Perhaps the sigma 150-500?

I have very minimal experience with fashion/glamour photography but recently have been exploring the genre a little bit. This was shot at home on a thunder grey seamless paper backdrop; lighting is in a clamshell configuration, key light is an AB800 with a gridded softbox boomed overhead plus a silver reflector below for fill. I would have liked to use an octabox or beauty dish instead for a more circular catch-light but I'm borrowing the lighting gear from a friend so I'll take whatever I can get my hands on.

D3s + 85 f/1.4D @ f/8, 1/250s, ISO200:

Very nice.

---

Over Thanksgiving weekend, my girlfriend and I decided to brave the wintry mix garbage spewing down from the pre-dawn Seattle sky and head out to the Olympic Peninsula for a bit of early winter camping. Seattle's muck turned to snow on the drive and by the time we reached the coast it was all clear skies and empty trails. Here's a view from near our campsite at the normally very popular Camp Alava:

Had it not been below freezing and sunlight a rapidly depleting resource, I would have taken a few more shots. As it stood, getting a fire started took priority. :-)

And one from yesterday playing with a new, large light mod:
