why not something like this? - not a Pentax

I just came across this:
Fujifilm unveils FinePix X100 large-sensor compact: Digital Photography Review
Why pentax can't (read won't) do something like this? I think it's beautiful, functional etc....

I have thought the same ever since Leica came out with the X1 last year. It's a very Pentax like idea, right in their area of expertise (small prime), and unlike an EVIL system, they wouldn't have to design more than one lens.

Yup... that Fuji is gorgeous and may blow the Leica X1 out of the water for everyone but the most hard-core Leicaphile. Any guesses on price? The X1 runs $2,000 U.S. - and lacks the trick viewfinder. I'll bet the Fuji is well under $1,000 U.S. And, more importantly, I hope that kind of viewfinder solution makes it into more mirrorless cameras.

The camera's site uses language like "professional" "no compromise design" etc. etc. This sounds suspiciously to me like marketing speak for "You're paying a lot of money for this because..."

Still, the Leica X1 was tempting at $2000. If this camera comes in closer to $1,000 it will definitely be worth considering.

If the price is right on this one I'm starting to collect aluminum cans by the side of the highway today.

I blew the last of my "saved up cash for my life altering mid life career change" on the E-P2. I have to admit it was worth it to me. I'm skipping the K5 because quite frankly the K7 is a very good DSLR for the type of photography I do and like many Americans I'm broke.. Hopefully this isn't going to be too expensive.

That's a nice looking camera. I think that would be the only type of mirror-less I would consider (assuming the optical viewfinder is really nice).

I think a removable lens would still be better though. Even if they would only have one to start with.

The X100 looks like a winner based on the specs. Great compact backup for pros or for anyone who wants a compact classic 35mm lens set up.

Hopefully the viewfinder is decent.

If it's less than USD1000 street, then put me down for one.

I absolutely love the button layout and sheer simplicity. This is so old school - dial in the aperture on the lens and dial in the shutter up top! This is brilliant. I assume you adjust focus on lens too?....oh please say you do! Now just make it a K-mount bayonet and I'd have everything I've ever wanted!

ARE YOU LISTENING PENTAX!!!!

it looks like focusing ring on the lens, looking at the style and specs it seems terrific camera. We just need to wait for street price (RRP would do for now) and some IQ tests..
but indeed, I hope Pentax people see this camera and come up with something...

I'd also like to say that if Pentax were to make something like that I would prefer:

1. CCD like or the same as the Leica M9 preferably focused on dynamic range... well I guess a Sony sensor would okay too.
2. Optical viewfinder like this or the M9
3. Focus on still frame image quality and ergonomics first before anything else
4. Removable lens system
5. WR

I'm with you mate. Also like the sensor to be High ISO - like the Kx and now the K5 and Kr following it. Also a dedicated ISO button.

Now, Pentax, just let us know the release date please!

Fuji has rolled out a lot of good cameras but the reality is it is a very small fish in a big pond. Expect sales to be tepid like the other preceding enthusiast models. :ugh:
