Panasonic GF2

Press release got by me somehow last week, and surprised no comments here. Great looking little camera body, 18% smaller than the GF1 and about the same size as my LX3. Cool new lenses coming out by Panasonic as well, including a cool 3D lens.

Tempting, very tempting.

Seems like the wrong direction for that line (considering how well it sold) - the GF1 was clearly an enthusiast's companion while the new GF2 is aimed squarely at the sony nex crowd.

I don't really need smaller, don't care about video, and don't like touchscreens on cameras, so it's pretty useless to me. Nice engineering though, I guess.

But for those who do care, it seems like a potentially cool product. I travel for a living and cant always carry my K-7 on my person, but something as small as the GF2 and the resolution of a much bigger sensor than my LX3, is very attractive.

I think I may take a closer look at this by Springtime. I wonder what it will cost?

It's smaller than the GF1, but once you attach a lens the difference is negligible, really.

Depends on the lens, of course. The new 14/2.5 is very small and side by side isn't much thicker than the LX3/5.

Of course, if Pentax ever releases something like this, K mount of course, It would be hard to turn away from when needing a smaller kit. I hope if Pentax ever does release one, it will be APS-C sized sensor rather than the M4/3.

I agree that it seems over-simplified for the market that loved the GF1... But then my guess is that Panasonic knows perfectly well who the market is and the simplification of the GF2 rather implies that there's going to be another model soon (GP2 has been thrown around) targeted at a more enthusiast market, possibly with the GH2 sensor...
