Don't ever judge final acuity based on images that show up in these types of promotions - which are mostly downsized jpegs not taken/processed with an MTF score in mind.

I suspect that this lens/sensor combo is capable of some very good sharpness at f/2.8 or smaller, and probably passable sharpness wide-open with some simple PP.

And that promotional video is pretty good.... Looks like a fun camera at the very least, at best possibly a game changer.

.
passable sharpness at wide open is good enough for me for portraits and I think the f2.8 opening is still shallow enough still and considerably sharper for portraits. I too won't discount the lens yet since downsizing jpegs can really take a lot from the image. aside from RAW, the interesting would be the DR. at 13 EV from base ISO to ISO 400, I'd be pretty much happy and contented. 14 EV would just be plain overkill, but I wouldn't complain about it, .

The shutter sound is sooooooo divine. Sounds just like my Konica Auto S2. I will gladly trade rangefinder focusing (I think!) for a smaller body and a digital back.

The samples look pretty decent, but the ones in the flash site are pretty blurry.

If this camera gets close to $1000, it would be a great partner to the K-7 for conventions. With prime lenses, it's easier at times to just have two camera bodies. This would probably be sufficient for full-body shots then I'd have a prime between 30 to 55 on the K-7 for portraits. I'd like to get a K-5, but I don't know if I can justify the price. (interested in the Silver one, but it's expensive, especially with tax/shipping from the Pentax web store). This Fuji seems like a decent alternative for "dual wielding" camera bodies.

It's too bad it doesn't look like it supports DNG format though.

DNG

As soon as Lightroom makes the file-type compatible one should be able to convert to DNG while importing. At least I hope so, I want this camera in a bad way...

it will work well methinks. it looks to be a magnetic closure from the video on the x100 website, so maybe not as bad as the old ‘snap’ closure style often used back in the days when these cases earned their nickname.

That, and there is no need to open it every 36 shots or so. This camera is the only digital product that excites me besides the Leicas and 645D. Fuji makes truly world class lenses and I'm sure this one will be no exception. Looks like a real winner and I love that it has a leaf shutter.
