Canon gives people what they asked for but...

how many will actually buy one? People have been complaining about Canon not having anything equivalent to the Nikon 200-400 (which actually is not that great of a lens) for quite a while. Well, now they announce a 200-400/4 with a built in 1.4x teleconverter which is one hell of a piece of gear. Unfortunately looking at the recent trend in prices, it will probably land at around $8,000 or so.

Still, it will probably be some nice, nice glass...

There will be a Chinese version of this lens on Ebay soon for $199.

Seriously, the TS-E 24mm tilt shift lens is awfully cool though.

Yes it is, though the 45 is higher on my list. I often find myself wanting perspective control for my landscapes and they are generally around 40-60mm focal length...

That 200-400mm looks like a great wildlife walk-about lens.

There are enough people who can afford 4 figure lenses which really aren't that expensive consider how much Rolex and Ferrari cost.

My guess of $7,000 to your guess of $8,000 seems right on the money to me for the 200-400mm f4 Canon Eos lens.

I think alot of people will buy it.

Nikon owners buy 200-400mm f4 for $6,800

Canon is refreshing the entire super tele lens line.
2011 is supposed to be big for both Canon and Nikon.
