Asking for a friend - Nikon D3100 battery compatibility

Hey guys,

my friend apparently bought the wrong battery for her d3100, the en el9a instead of the el 14 for her nikon d3100, just wondering - is it totally incompatible/dangerous even to attempt to use it in the d3100? Thanks.

According to the B&H site the dimensions are different enough (same length, not as wide, and thicker) that the EL9a probably won't fit. Doesn't she have one of the correct batteries to compare it to?
