Refurbished Nikon any good?

I have been wanting to go FF & after seeing the wonderful samples of pics here, I decided to look for a Nikon D700. I have been patiently waiting for months for it to be available @ the NikonUSA site since it's always out of stock just about anywhere & finally pulled the trigger this morning when it was finally in stock. My question is, is it a worthy purchase? Should I wait for the next replacemet in which Nikon will officially announce on the 24th? I'm excited to get my hands on it but hesitant at the same time

Nikon warranties their refurbs for 1yr, iirc. If you're ok with that, there's no reason not to get one.

You are supposed to ask before you buy.

Nothing wrong with refurbished. There was a problem, they fixed it.

Having purchased most of my gears used(Marketplace,KEH,C-list) without warranties & happy with them, I had no reservations with this one. In fact, knowing it came with a (90 days I believe) warranty made it easier. However, photographywise, I wonder if getting into FF would make any difference. I enjoy using my K-x & I think it's very capable, having produced so many wonderful images with it but still feels limited. My wife just gave me the "greenlight" for an upgrade & I'm like a kid let loosed in a candy store . DWB, how's it been for you since you own a D700? Thank you for all your inputs!

yes - totally worth it. D700 is probably one of the best DSLRs ever made. It is 3 years old, but it still has one of the best low light IQ - only D3s and may be one of Canon 1D series can better it. Has the best AF available. It is just a great, great camera.
It spoils you a bit - with the tremendous AF accuracy and speed. It makes other camera's improvements look blase`

Even if the D800 is announced in late August, it probably won't be released until September, and will be very hard to get until probably November. No one knows what the price will start at, either. The two replacements this month could very well be the D400 and D4 and not the D800 anyway.

There is supposedly a 10% coupon now off new or refurbished items at the Nikon store:

Nikon coupon link

This same site is reporting that brand new (not refurbished) D700's are on sale through Best Buy for $2267.99. They may now be out of stock though, as I could not even add one to a shopping cart.

I've decided to wait for the D800 to come out and the D700s to flood the market, and a price drop, but I'd have no problem taking a refurb unit at all.

If the D800 comes out at $3200-$3400 like some are speculating, it may take a while for people to upgrade and give up their D700.
