I do prefer the K5s ergonomics also.

Is the 12mp of the D700 that much of a hindrance compared to the 16mp of the K5?

How do you guys feel about shooting with ISOs higher than 6400 with the D700?
I prefer the 12mp D700 files. Not that the K-5 files are bad in any way... so far I just prefer the look of the D700 files. May be purely subjective, others may feel differently, and my opinion may change over time. (Of course I'm new to the K-5, and I am sure that I'm not even close to achieving full image quality yet.)

I don't normally shoot the D700 at anything over 400. I've had it at 3200 once, and the files were fine.

I've shot at ISO 6400 with excellent results. Haven't ever needed to shoot higher than that.

12mp is a hindrance only for shots where you want to do extensive cropping. Obviously, there won't be too many such shots - otherwise it is time to work on the composition a bit.

D700's high ISO (higher than 6400) is very good. I consistently found it being half a stop better than k-5. This shot is at 10,000 ISO. D700 + 50/1.8D

Been using the D700 and 24-70 2.8 for about a week now. Much bigger, feels more "pro" which is a bit hard to explain. I'm more surprised by the auto-focus, that jump to me seems bigger than the difference from aps-C to FF. Bokeh with this lens so far is amazing. It's like having a zoom FA 43mm... and that's saying a lot. I do miss they way the K5 does auto iso, and how you can adjust how "P" works (MTF, DOF, Shutter speed, etc.)

The body just feels "right" to me. (A bit too large for some of my traveling, which is one reason I wanted a smaller DSLR.) The AF performance is nice, isn't it?

I really like the K-5's TAv mode.

I might be miss-reading what you are saying about "P" mode - but you do know that "P" on the D700 is a flexible program?

I understand you can change settings in "P" in D700, but pentax can be set to "lean" to your preference while in the boundaries of auto exposure.

I'm sure you can have the equivalent Tav mode in Nikon.

I put it in manual with auto iso (100-3200) and then choose whatever shutter speed and aperture combo I want.

Well that's how it works with the D7000 so I must assume the D700 is the same

The 24-70 is a really good lens. Just not my taste. 16-35, 35, 85 (Sigma. Nikon isn't worth the premium), 135DC, 70-200 VRI if I had to do it over.
