Can we just delete this, given that the original Adorama article was wrong and has now been changed?

When we see the photos from the A77/65/NEX-7 that are NOT from a pre-production body and firmware, then we can pass judgement on the quality from this 24mp sensor...What we have seen so far are examples from people who were given the cameras and they had less than one day to learn the cameras (and bang out as many jpeg examples as possible for their respective write-ups) as well as, again, pre-production firmware.

Relax, I think this sensor will be fine.

High ISO samples look like total crap. 24mp was a big mistake.
I don't even think it's the 24mp that's the problem. Sony has never been good at high ISO, no matter the sensor.

Ey? Have you not seen images from the current 16mp Sony sensor?

Let me clarify. Sony has never been good at high ISO in their cameras. It didn't matter what the sensor was actually capable of doing, Pentax and Nikon have always done it better with the same sensor.

Perhaps you have missed the Alpha580. Examples I have seen at high iso look very impressive and pretty much identical to the K-5 and D7000. DXO mark rates this camera very well too...neck and neck with the Pentax and Nkon. From the limited samples I have seen from the NEX-5n (same sensor), it looks damn impressive too.

The biggest issue will be comparing the Pellicle to a traditional DSLR. Sony's Pellicle idea loses 1/2 a stop of light to start with and has been shown to degrade the image as well making it softer.
personally I have no desire for pellicle tech. the Nex-7 though with the same sensor holds some serious appeal from the look of it (I really would have to try it first though)

Mirror issues detailed in this article

Given the large number of cameras they have a tendency of releasing, it's possible.

24mp FF sensor was never the meant to be the same high ISO sensor as Nikon's 12mp FF sensors... Sony was not targeting that market...

Since when is a 24mp FF sensor the same as a 12mp FF sensor?

This thread should be closed. The OP mistakenly assumed the sensor in the A77 was full frame and there's been a lot of confusion about it ever since.

And you fault Sony for this? Amazing.

Not so much for the large number of cameras that they release, but for the large number of almost identical iterations...

Their release cycle for meaningful upgrades is very slow (how long ago was the A700 released?)

Really Jason, what's the gripe? At what point did I fault Sony for me missing one of their umpteenth "upgrades"? So maybe I missed one, what's the big friggin deal? I didn't know it was a requirement of posting to know every single body a company puts out. Just how far up there did that bug make it?

Now that I've actually looked at samples of the 580, I see it really doesn't matter whether I missed it or not. As usual, they are one of the worst of the bunch. Sure, they get rid of the noise, and every bit of detail along with it. Like they've always done.

Exactly. Good to see someone gets it.
