My new Minolta MD Tele Rokkor-X 135/3.5 arrived today. What a nice little lens! Mint condition, and even lighter than I expected. I was hoping to get some pics of something other than flowers, but it is getting ready to storm, and I'm lucky to have had the light I had. This lens has the same rich colors and contrast as my other two Minolta primes, a 28/2.8 and a 50/1.7. I did not boost the colors or saturation of these photos. I look at these photos and wonder why I ever bought any lens other than a Minolta. Of course, you can't use a Minolta on a Pentax.

You sound like a candidate for an A7. People who get into Rokkor's seem to become obsessed. I believe it was Bimjo who recommended the 35-70 macro highly. Maybe you can find one.

I have considered the A7, but I don't have the free cash on hand for it, and I'm loathe to stick that much money on a credit card. I may end up getting an a6000 or NEX-7 once I've sold a few more things from my collection.

Here are a few more from this morning with the NEX-5R + MD 135/3.5. I saw a few critters scampering about in the front yard as I was leaving for work. At first there was a squirrel, a Blue Jay, and a Cardinal, but a sneak attack by the other two squirrels drove away the birds just as I was pulling out the NEX. The first photo isn't quite as sharp as the others, but I included it because I like the pose of the other two squirrels. Really liking this new Minolta 135.

The dynamic range holds pretty high through 1600, after that is when it tanks. I bet he didn't lose more than 2 stops, but you're right, he might not have been able to pull anything or he perhaps already did what he could.

Busy afternoon in the front yard. Along with the usual suspects, a pair of Red-bellied Woodpeckers came calling. I've never had much success photographing them, because they move around rapidly, and they usually take off as soon as I appear at the window with a camera. They are even more elusive when you see them in the woods. Today, however, I was able to get a few decent photos of them, including a couple together. A very nice first for me.

First two shots were with a Yashica Yashinon-DX 45/1.7 on my new NEX-6, which arrived today. I even got a BIF. The others were with the NEX-6 and MD Rokkor-X 135/3.5. All in all, quite a successful afternoon.

All flower shots were taken bySigma 60mm f/2 with a Cosina closeup lens and NEX 5n. If you like Sigma 30, you will love Sigma 60. One gripe is on the slippery lens barrel that it will take some efforts to fine tune focus. I really enjoy this lens along with Sigma 30 and 19.

Both Sigma 30 and 60 can't work perfectly well on FF but good enough that I can use it in a pinch with 1.1 to 1.2 Clear Image Zoom feature in FF non-crop mode on A7.

That would be a nice feature. Did you take off the back baffles on your lenses?

Yes, I took off all the baffles on my Sigma 19, 30, 60 and the E 50mm f/1.8. Without the baffles, the Sigma 30 and 60 work reasonably well on my A7 but that require work.

I won't highly recommend using them on A7/r. My current issues (gripe) is lack of AF lenses and hence in a pinch, I use the aps-c lenses. If I have the A7r, I likely use the crop mode but on A7, I prefer to shoot on non-crop mode and do PP on cropping out the dark edges. Removing the baffle helps a bit but the dark edges and vignette will require a 1.1 to 1.2x clear image zoom setting or a crop in post processing.

Cheers,
Hin

My concern is less about the lack of lenses and more about the price of what they have. FE is not a cheap mount to be sure. I wish Sigma would release a set of FE Primes like they did for the APS-C cameras. My friend's 55/1.8 and 35/2.8 are quite excellent lenses, but the cost is high.

If I know what I know today, I will wait for another 1-2 years before jumping to the full frame route in Sony. Sony A7/r/s are wonderful cameras but the cost of ownership is high and there are few important issues that Sony has to address especially on the support of native lenses. I wish Sigma will do in the near future exactly what you wish for. It is always greener on the other side and once I cross over and I surely take it for granted what I have enjoyed so much on aps-c sensor.

And a picture of my LowPro Event bag, small but big enough to host 4 takumars and the nex5N at ease -- 55 f/1.8, 50 f/4 macro, 35mm f/2.0, 28mm f/3.5 and Lens Turbo.

Hin

Many thanks - think my post-processing may have been a bit heavy handed though. Got the same shot on Portra 400NC with my P67II and 105/2.4, so see how that turns out!

Some wide open dreamy shots with Fujinon 75mm f/1.8 c-mount lens and my nex 5n in early morning. This is not a macro lens and I use a Cosina macro adapter and the vignette may actually come from my mounting of the close up adapter as the Fujinon has a small built in-hood in front. The lens is the one on the left side next to Sigma 60 and another c-mount with Fujian 35mm f/1.7.

The Fujinon-tv 75mm f/1.8 is quite an unusual lens. It can flare easily but I think I am still finding my creative shot with flare with the Fujinon.

All shot with Sigma 60mm f/2.8 on 5N. The Sigma 30 has closer close up but I find the Sigma 60 longer focal length more suited for product shots on gear porn. The red camera is a Contax 137 MA in C/Y mount. The mounted lens is the sigma super-wide 24mm f/2.8 in C/Y mount

The Canon FD 50 f/1.4 SSC product shot is also made with Sigma 60 for marketplace listing.

Hin
