I don't ever shoot with flash, so I don't know. I haven't used any of the special functions except auto-pano yet.

Thanks for your info.

Does TTL flash work? What about functions like Handheld Twilight or Auto HDR?
Yes, TTL flash with MF lenses works on both the flash that comes with the camera and the upgrade HVL-F20S (Guide No 20) which I have including with the preflash that measures reflectivity. The F20S has a bounce head that works fine with MF lenses and a diffuser that adjusts down to a 12mm lens.

Auto HDR works. All the pictures on the previous page with the Sigma 8-16mm were taken with Auto HDR on.

Haven't tried Handheld Twilight, but I can't see why not.

Although the NEX is incompatible with several remote flashes because it does a preflash to measure reflectivity, it should work with my Metz 15-S Ring Flash that can be programed not to fire on the preflashes. If I get the E-mount 30mm Macro lens, I might try it.

Christine, the pic with the kissing couple is wonderful . Just curious, was it staged, or did you capture that without them knowing?

Rough comparison of the Nikkor 28/2.8 Ai-s vs. the Vivitar 28/2.8 Close Focus (Komine). Both at f/2.8 near MFD, both processed with the same settings in LR3:

Here are some macro shots with the Sony HVL-F20s flash. I haven't been able to get my Metz Ring Flash to work with the NEX. The f20s had the 12mm diffuser on and was usable with the 30mm f3.5 Macro lens but light is not perfectly diffused. Overall 5N+30mm Macro+HVL-F20S is quite usable for a small light setup.

Taking a front shot of a jumping spider with a 30mm lens in the dark is no mean feat. I was amazed the 5N managed to focus in almost zero light. It takes its time to focus though.

Something laid eggs in the screw hole...

Great shots tsammy. The 30mm seems to be a very nice offering too.

There's no coupling at all. Aperture is controlled from the lens (or the adapter, if it's a lens without an aperture ring), and if you stop it down, the lens stays stopped down. Since it uses live view, you're always seeing what's actually coming in through the lens. You don't have to meter or anything... just focus and shoot.

You can shoot in any mode you want... I typically use Tv.
How big is the M mount adapter? Are you using the EVF that comes separately? Hmmm...I'm thinking the 5N might be the better option than the 7. 24 megapixels seems like too many if you ask me. I'm getting an M module for the GXR so the lenses could do double duty.

The Helios 44 is an excellent lens and it's the main reason I'm getting the GXR M module. It's gives roughly an 85 which is what I'm missing.

check imaging resource
there's no much difference at the pixel level (and the nex-7 samples look better than a77)

The tilt LCD is a draw for me; wish the K-r had one for macros and fast, low-level pics.

THANKS!!

Wow that's smaller than the MFT M39 adapter. Good deal.

So you think the NEX 7 is that much better than the NEX 5N? That said, who knows when you will be able to get a NEX 7.
