Great shots Emacs! That sub is so fascinating. Is it part of a park now? Is that a field or a frozen pond next to it?

So it was a meeting of post-pentaxians? What were most people shooting? (the question seems fitting on the non-Pentax thread but I hope I don't start a flame war)

It's a war museum now. It was caspian "sea" (this is huge salt lake actually) fleet unit. The field is frozen river (Moscow river).

Yes, most of them (some people were from local nikon club). Most people chose canon 5d mk ii, some prefered nikon d700.

Thanks for sharing! I really like the second one. I feel the first one shows off some of that corner weakness to the kit lens. Also the combo of the farris wheel and eiffel tower is more evocative IMHO.

Thanks.

Keep in mind I have added pretty dramatic vignetting with the post processing, especially on the second one. The first one is cropped, but the top is the actual corner and at 18mm.

That's were I see some smearing even at web size but, again, the center is very sharp and nice. Sony seems to really go for center sharpness almost at the expense of corner performance. That works on a portrait lens but a frustrating choice on some of their other lenses.

I haven't noticed that - and I own ALL the released E-mount lenses except for Zeiss 24mm and the 18-200mm (too heavy for me). [Caveat: I have bought the 50mm f1.8 but it hasn't arrived yet so can't comment on that one]

Even the 16mm with wide/fish converters deliver acceptable sharpness into the corners. The kit zoom seems to be pretty good for a kit lens.

What I HAVE noticed is that the corners have a fair amount of CA if uncorrected. The camera does correct for CA if you let it, but if you capture Raw, then there's a lot of CA smearing on the 16mm especially if uncorrected.

Also excessive PP can accentuate the CA if uncorrected.
