Kenafein,
I hope you will enjoy using the 5N and I look forward to seeing some of your images from it, especially the DA 21 and the Samyang 8mm.
I haven't been very active on these forums since I gave up most of my Pentax gear, but I think I might have to spend a little more time here. I still have a few SMC lenses that I can shoot on the NEX system.

Thanks, I am loving it already. I borrowed a NEX 5n previously and I liked it, but I had the 16mm and didn't test out the focus peaking. Focus peaking makes it a breeze to focus manual lenses. I feel kind of stupid for selling so many of mine off. My 55/1.2 is going to be used a lot more, and It's a good opportunity to pick up some of the russian M-mount stuff though, and some other oddities.

The light in these is stunning, particularly in the second shot. Well done!

Here's one from the kit lens on the 5N using the panorama feature.

Wow, that almost looks like an HDR composited shot!

"Testing" Pentax A50/f1.2 vs Summilux 50 ASPH with NEX-5N.
Left sample is Pentax, right is Leica. Both at f8, 1/1000

The Leica is dramatically better from this sample, but with the cost difference, and normal viewing sizes, the Pentax is certainly fine. I was always very pleased with my 50/1.7. Thanks for the comparisson.

EDIT: I thought you tested vs the 50/1.7, but I noticed it was the 1.2. Still the bargain goes to the Pentax. I bet the 1.7 would also perform very well at F8.

Yes, they both look very sharp at the print size (at screen).

I am guessing that sharpening it up in PP would remove most of the difference, no?

Some has been applied already for both (equal amount). Enhancing won't give much.

But, this A50/1.2 shot was misfocused. I have just done it again. The difference is quite negligible, with slighly greater contrast of leica.

I was amazed with the first comparison, since the A50/1.2 is one of the sharpest pentax lenses ever.

Yes, I just saw that the shots were at f8 - I wouldn't expect to see much difference between the lenses at f8. More interesting at f1.4-2.8.

Wow with those focused fixed the shots are even closer. I agree with Leica is slightly better but even staring at the shots side by side I think it is a about a draw. Kinda says to me the Leica isn't worth the extra $$$ unless you plan on shooting wide open. What's the different at say f2?

I think most 50mm lenses are excellent at f8. That's not really what differentiates a 4K Summilux ASPH from a $40 M 50/1.7.
