Thanks guys.

Another great thing about the 16mm is that it is small and light. I really wish Sony made more pancake style lenses.

Here is a self portrait of me on the MTR in Hong Kong - using the 16mm. The camera was so light I was holding it and taking pictures just using three fingers - on a moving train! Notice I did not even bother putting the strap on.

Caught the light. No PP (I mean only default PP in Darktable). ISO 400, 1/5, Hand held

Summilux 35 ASPH FLE. Usually I find its bokeh being too nervous when focused at close distances, but sometimes it helps

BTW, I tried the NEX-7 today, and I must say I'm quite impressed with the body ergonomics. It feels like a right camera for me, perfectly matches even heavy lux 50 made of brass. Too bad its sensor is a waste (I don't mean the final output, but poor corner performance with all lenses, even 24/1.8, 50/1.8, kit zoom, etc. Don't even tell about RF wides). Although I would prefer the third wheel on the camera front.

Nice shots, Emacs, as always. is that St Petersburg across the Neva river?

Out of the more affordable (under $1000) standard lenses for the NEX, I find the Zeiss Sonnar 50/1.5 ZM a real standout especially for portraits:

No, once I bet I will never go the SPb, I don't want to lose.
It's a Moscow river.

Nice shots, I especially like #2, nice composition, lightning and great classic lens rendition.

I agree with you. I think the body is nearly perfect. I thought the corner issues were only with the M mounts. I hadn't heard about any issues with native e-mount stuff.

Has anyone thought about or tried the SLR Magic Hyperprime? It is supposedly a rebadged nokton, according to one of the eBay ads. A new 50/0.95 for just under 1k.

Actually I just found this and Steve claims it is not a clone. World Exclusive 1st Look! SLR Magic HyperPrime LM 50mm T0.95 – For Leica M Mount | STEVE HUFF PHOTOS

The images do look good though.

It's Noktor, not Nokton. I believe Noktor was acquired by SLR Magic, but information found online is pretty fuzzy on these details. Also see: Noktor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Ah, thanks for the links. I guess that is what I get from reading eBay listings with bad translations. So it is not a nokton. I have to say I like the sample shots on that thread, but I am not ready to shell out 1k just yet. I will play with my 1.2 a bit more. I saw that they were going to release a 23/1.7 also. I wonder if that was scrapped.

The Noktor for M-mount is completely redesigned and costs about 4 times more than the Noktor for the E-mount. The images from the new Noktor do indeed look impressive.

The Hyperprime F0.95 50mm is different than the T0.95 50mm. The T0.95 is a full-frame M-mount lens (although there is a "cine" version without rangefinder mechanism that costs $3k vs $5k) that was designed from the ground up and is very sharp in the center even wide open; however, it is $3k. You can find a review of the $3k cine T0.95 lens on the NEX-7 here at Photozone.de. The e-mount F0.95 will not cover a full-frame is based on a C-mount design so the corners and general sharpness is worse.

The similarity of the lens names makes it very confusing but don't think you're getting what Steve Huff was using for $1k. That would be nice but it just ain't so.

EDIT: The 23mm f1.7 was indeed scrapped. You can read about it on my camera/photo blog.

Interesting, I missed that review.

They also made a 12/1.6 that is reviewed on photozone:

SLR Magic Hyperprime 12mm f/1.6 - Review / Lens Test

The names and product line of SLR Magic are very confusing. I found various rumors around how they acquired the Noktor name and what disputes they had around it, but I am not sure what is true and what is Internet rumor. I wish their site had some corporate history page. Perhaps they'll become a significant player in time and then their lens lineup will be better documented than it is now.

Thanks for the clarification. I was impressed with the e mount version from Laurentiu's mflenses thread though. The person who bought it had the c-mount version, and I liked his samples. I am not one for spending 3k on a lens, but I understand it is a bargain in Leica land. It is a real shame about the 23.

Amazingly, a Jupiter 9 in m39 that i was watching went for 305 shipped, that is more than a new 50/1.8. They don't all go for that, but I would rather spring for the extra and buy the Heliar at that point. I think the NEX is really driving up prices of these old lenses.
