heavy lifter

Went down to the Port of Pasco (aka Big Pasco) to look at the new crane that the Neil F Lampson company is building. It's a big honker, currently configured to lift 1500 tons. In its really heavy lift configuration it is rated at 3100 tons of lift.

More on my blog.

You're right, it was a quick shot :-)

A sweep panorama made with Contax G Sonnar 90mm f/2.8 (it wasn't easy, you know...)

Since the posts are all about new Sony cameras, how about a pic or three?

Ok, that was more than three.

Ditto. I really like the simplicity of the first one too.

I like the last 2nd one as the color mix of blue and sunset yellow give the twilight type of setting which is always my favorite. And the calmness of the water is a nice touch in the picture.

Do you use any special filter on that particular picture? I am curious and thanks in sharing with us. And I +1 on Joel's statement on the 1st picture for its simplicity as well, I like a bit closer crop on the 1st one, just a slight touch to crop closer.

Cheers,
Hin

Michele, that is a fantastic shot. I remember Brent had a great series of pictures borrowing a Contax 90mm and it is likely a similar lens to yours. Beautiful work.

Cheers,
Hin

Thanks guys!

Hin- I used a ND400 (9 stop) filter for the long exposure shots. The third shot in the series (first sunset shot) was 8 seconds @ f/8. The unfiltered shot was 1/80 seconds. The portrait oriented shot you mentioned specifically was 15 seconds & I didn't take an unfiltered version of that shot.

I missed this before. This is a pretty good showing from the sweep. Did you use a 5N or a 6? This is much better than anything I've seen out of my 5N. I havent really tried the mode on my 6, but I've been meaning to. Twitch has an RX100 and the mode seems much improved over the 5N. He was able to take amazing panos, of architecture and people on a crowded beach with no glaring artifacts. I know if I'd taken the same pic with my 5N I'd have had scores of amputees and disembodied heads flying around. I don't know if I'm doing it wrong or if the new cameras are just much better at stitching. I can only see one glaring stitch issue in your image, towards the right.
