That's too high a price and more megapixels than I would need or want to work with. No thanks, Nikon.

With resolution and a price tag like that I'm curious where Nikon plans to position the D800 - it seems like it will sit somewhere between the current D700 and D3x. I wonder if we should also expect a 'budget' Nikon FX body?

If you want a budget FX get the D700. Despite whatever improvements that will come with the newest batch of camera's the D700 will always be an amazing machine.

Yes, the price of the D800 will insure the D700's value remains high.

That's too many pixels for me. My D50 I used to have was 6mp and made a good 11X14. The only reason I shoot the D300 at 12 is just in case I want to do some cropping.

Just what I was thinking. Octocores won't be enough; CPU's must go lots faster too. Last I looked, makers were concentrating on underpowered (oops, I mean energy efficient) mobile devices, not high-octane quantum crunchers for gigapickle images. The D800 will either spawn whole new support industries, or be limited to the upper echelons in the Hassy-Leica bracket whose owners already have the workstations.
