36 MP Sony FF coming soon too!

Supposedly sharing the same 36MP sensor as the forthcoming D800. If Sony releases this as a FF SLT, will be interesting for sure. Also, rumored to be less expensive than the Nikon when released. Here's the link:

sonyalpharumors | Blog | (SR4) Sony FF with 36 Megapixel sensor coming early 2012 (Nikon D800 with same sensor).

Ah, will it be of the usual modern Sony quality? The quality that drove so many users to the A900 and A850?

No idea, just the heads up.

I believe that was a rhetorical question.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what Sony does (wrong) this time. Now I'll admit, I did rather lust for an A850. Whether that lust could be sustained after a close reading of reviews, I don't know. I didn't get that far. I try not to do too much research on stuff I can't afford. All I need is the next inheritance and then I can start researching again.

And thanks for the notice!

MC/MD or Maxxum/Alpha? The old MC/MD lenses won't reach infinity on Alpha cams AFAIK.

hmm good to know.. damn it's an M/MD adaptall mount.. I guess the 19AH 70-210mm's "close focus" macro would be a little bit closer... not that my 2X Teleconverter that I gutted couldn't do that!

Where MD lenses are useful: On m4/3, NEX, NX, and that's about it for digital; otherwise, get an SRT-101, eh?

What to do with MD Adaptalls: Sell the mounts, I guess, and get PK or Alpha Adaptalls, for your dSLR of choice.

Yeah have a PK and a PKA adapter.. just have to see what the K-3 brings, because with the jumps in sensor technology continuing at such a pace and wanting a second body anyways.. a K-3 would be great with my K-5 as a second.. depending on price of course.. and what can and cannot be wrote off for taxes etc. I would even be happy with a K-r for a backup depending on when the K-3(or whatever it is) will be released.. but I will always prefer a weather sealed unit!

The A900/A850 was too much of a niche camera. That does not mean it was of poor quality. Basic FF camera with a beautiful viewfinder and a sensor with outstanding image quality (though admittedly not so awesome at higher ISO). That is what a lot of people in the past have asked for. Unfortunately being alpha mount the market was already rather limited and not providing features like Liveview drove more people away.

The camera itself is excellent. Their market research, perhaps not so much.

I'm surprised at seeing the Alpha 77's (APS-C 24MP sensor) image testing at dpreview shows that it is not that strong of a high ISO performer, I was expecting it to be on par or better than the K-5, but I guess we'll see what Pentax/Nikon/others can do with the sensors being run through their processor.

It would be really nice to see Pentax adopt this 36MP FF sensor too.
