iPhone 4S vs Canon 5d MKII: video comparison, side by side

iPhone 4S vs Canon 5d MKII: video comparison, side by side

I made a little rig that allowed me to shoot both cameras at the same time side by side. All scenes are perfectly synced together so you can pause and scrutinize the frames! See photo of the makeshift rig in the photo area. Exposure, shutter speed, frame rate and picture style were matched as close as possible between the two cameras. ... This test shows that the tiny F2.4 lens and sensor on the iPhone are pretty nice. It even got a little depth of field!
Of course, the Canon doesn't require any subscription plan. But still...

I am not so impressed personally. :ugh:

I can take much better video with my $160 WX9 than the $650+ iPhone.

Sure, the iPhone has the "carrying with you at all times" advantage, and it is pretty good as a "phone camera"; but in terms of video quality, there are many cheap digital cameras which can beat it handily.

Get that little lens adapter and throw on some nice glass onto that iPhone and I think the results would be pretty impressive now. And I laughed when I first read about that adapter....

Can your WX9 make phone calls ? Can it scan barcodes and show me who has the best price ? Can it show me who has the lowest price for gas in my area ? Can I watch youtube videos on it ? Can I see this thread on it ?

It is pretty impressive for a phone. Obviously it isn't going to measure up as a camera, camcorder, in all situations, but I certainly don't think it is problematic if phone companies want to make the cameras and video on these phones be of decent quality. It certainly squeezes out the point and shoot market quite a bit.

Can the 5D Mk II?
Excuse me, but what is your point exactly? Comparing the video function - isn't it what the linked article is all about?

Sure, if you want to compare apples and oranges....
Let's see, the WX9 costs $160, and anyone who do not already have an iPhone can buy an unlocked Android smartphone for as low as $150 and do all of your functions above.
And yes, you can have $340 to spare over an iPhone.

I have an iPhone myself, and my 4S is on the way.
Maybe you were impressed, but I am not. And here's the bottom line. If there is any chance that I need to take video (or even stills), I would definitely bring my WX9 along. iPhone 4S's video would only serve as an emergency backup for me.
