I have a question about these Fuji mirrorless cameras - do adapted wide-angle lenses have the same lens shading and vignetting issues that you commonly see on the Sony NEX and R cameras?

Hi there - Good question.
I can't speak to RX cameras. Comments below with usual caveats re: quality of the lens that is being adapted and the image circle covered.

Having had both Sony and Fuji, and using legacy Minolta glass (such as the 24mm), i'd say the Fuji X-E1 is somewhat more tolerant that the Sony NEX-5n.

I have also observed that the Sony 16mp sensor (e.g., NEX-5n) is generally much more edge tolerant that the 24mp sensor (NEX-7), so if you are comparing 24mp Sony with 16mp Fuji, the answer definitely is yes.

The widest contemporary lens I currently have is the Pentax DA 15mm, which isn't exactly wide or edge sharp, but if you like I can provide a couple of examples with the Fuji. My 24mm is a Seagull (Minolta knockoff), I can also provide examples with this if you would like.

In terms of overall quality I prefer the Fuji, however the ISO floor is 200, rather than the 100 of the Sony ilk.

Here's an X-10 capture that was shot EXR and was not great, so it took more processing than I wanted, meanwhile I thought, right or wrong that it was worthy. My great niece...

Thanks Rupert, she and her sister are real sweethearts, and I guess the accurate term is grand niece, right? Hope all's well in Texas.

Been quiet lately as I have been on holiday all the way to Devon (next county over just over 100mile trip, so we went far.....) for some camping in a Yurt with a cheap deal from Groupon. Got loads of “snaps” and enjoyed playing with the 55-200mm lens at the Zoo, much better then cropping a 35mm lens (50ish mm FF).

There are a handful I think that are worth sharing, the 1st lot are from Becky Falls.

I was shooting with a rather cheap 10 stop filter off of Amazon, it gives a rather IR look to a colour image, but it doesn’t handle flare at all, lucky they don’t took too bad cropped out!

We also went to Buckfast Abbey, which was lovely and peaceful, well apart from our 2 monsters... but got to work the 18mm quite well with a ND grad filter.

I have a few of South Devon railway that I am going through, took JPEG and RAW and am undecided what to do at the mo, some look OK but they are nothing special!

I also purchased a Raynox DCR250 which I had a quick play with.

Cheers, Steve

Some nice shots and I can see that you had at least some (!) time to compose the shots.

Very nice photographs. Yes it is a lovely and handy camera, but as any needs a good eye behind it. I really like these. Welcome, and post more...

Well, working in the yard all day, so here's a yard shot. X10 in diminishing light, and pretty good as usual. Detail a bit smeared, but except for a minor crop pretty much out of the box.

Stephen, those are excellent shots with the X20! Yes indeed, it is a fantastic little camera, and you will love it more as time goes by. It, like the X10, just grows on you with every use. Be sure to join us over on the "Confessions of a Toy Camera" thread, you could make some nice contributions and we need all we can get!

A walk in the rapidly changing neighbourhood

Lots of building going on... and a gem at the end.

Nice shooting Clarkey....looks like it looks around here, lots of building going on. Due to the boom in natural gas drilling in our area, we have never felt the bad economy...in fact it has been booming for the past decade.

A few X20 shots from the past week around here....

For the 4th of July we traveled to the Hill Country and ate at the famous Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls. We took my Mom with us and met with our youngest son and his wife. It was delicious!

Mrs Rupert and our youngest son.

My Mom.

The good stuff!

What's better than my Chicken Fried Steak!

My son's two Chicken Fried Steaks!

Mrs Rupert had the Pot Roast.

The Bluebonnet Cafe is world famous for their pies...all kinds of pies!

Finally...back home I'm excited! We have at least three new baby Raccoons! Friendly little fellows, they will eat out of my hand! These little guys are more fun than a circus!

Regards!

Great stuff on here as always! Always enjoy being away for a while and seeing what I have missed out on!

Some more from me with the X-Pro 1, taken down Marizion.

IR Filter action.

before any mono conversion just white balance and exposure.

Some in colour with a 0.9 stop ND grad

Converted this on to mono to see the comparison between this and the IR image.

SWMBO fine behind.

Just for a bit of interest this what where HMS Warspite was scrapped as she came away from her tow lines coming around Lizard point.

Thats it from me.

Cheers, Steve
