I finally got around to making a couple of grid snoots for my flashes, after the oversized and under-sturdy one I made with black straws fell apart a year ago. The one I made for my AF200T is front-pocket-tiny and very sturdy.

Naturally, a pocketable flash, a pocketable grid, and pocketable triggers just scream out to be teamed up with a pocketable camera like the X10.

I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with this, especially as I no longer have a car and this rig is much more motorcycle portable.

It is a very nice doggie picture. Hope you made a print for his people.

I played around with the X10 and my new homemade Pocket Strobist [tm] kit this morning while waiting for the warehouse here to open up. In-camera review results are encouraging, but we all know that means nothing until there is a chance to transfer the shots to a computer and see how they really look.

Ruby is back on her feet and completely unrepentant. As you can see from the scars around her nose in the photos it must have been a pretty good sized rattlesnake. I rescued another dog today. We had a stray male about 12-18 months old wander up to the college. Poor thing was just skin and bones. He was a total sweetheart. I kept in my office all morning until a person I knew at another branch of the college came and picked him up. 3 is my limit on dogs. Great dog though. If my friend hadn't wanted him, I bet I would sitting here with 4 right now...............

New firmware v1.01 and lenses firmware is available for the XP1.
The significant fix seems to be reducing the lens chatter or "rattlesnake" noise so it's not an issue anymore. And as before with the X100, they don't revision the firmware names and all the lens files are the same name, weird.

And a SilkyPix Fix is available for that highlight problem I showed earlier.

I was sort of sucking for subjects where I was this morning when I had a chance to try out my new grid snoot:

You should show us a shot of your DIY gear. It sounds like a nice portable solution.

I'll try to get one soon. I stopped off on the way home this evening and bought a 1kg capacity Gorillapod to go with it. With the small spot of light a grid snoot throws it is necessary to carefully aim the flash and be sure it is still aimed when you go to take the picture, so some sort of tripod is necessary. I have my trusty and versatile Slik Sprint Pro GM travel tripod but thought it would be nice to have something small and more portable to go with this small kit. I've been wanting one for a while, and this seemed as plausible an excuse as any, at any rate.

Used the AF200T on-camera for fill flash on this one, as it was backlit:

Stopped by the side of the highway to shoot these.......as I got close....too close...I heard the rattling. They love these, great protection, for them.

Got a little closer, but was very careful.

Carry this in Rattler country...it won't cure you, but if you drink the whole bottle, you will forget all about your bite.

Pouring this on a Rattler would be considered "animal cruelty" and could get you in big trouble....that's why you drink it.....that way it's just an ordinary suicide.

I love Cholula, but it's pretty weak as far as heat goes.

I guess drinking an entire bottle would wreck pretty much anyone's stomach, though.
