I wonder how good iso 200,000 would actually be. Probably about as good as iso 51,000 on K5, which is to say lousy. Not sure sometimes why camera companies push iso specs like this, when in reality its pretty useless. I guess it's more for those people who have to have the camera with the highest iso out there, even if it can't really be used.

Of course then the 51000 will be like the very usable 12500 on the k5

It's pretty much a given it will be an excellent high iso performer but the upper numbers are really just a marketing ploy. But if you shoot sports and can shoot at 12500 with the quality your old kit shot at 3200 you will use it

I agree numbers are being pushed just to be "one better" than the competition often, but I am betting that ISO 200k would suffice for a small picture in a newspaper, which might be better than not getting the shot at all.

I guess so. Obviously if you were shooting an event, you could also just use manual mode, set your shutter speed and aperture for what you thought would work, iso for 6400 and then push the photo as much as need be. At those levels, the camera is just push processing the end photo anyway.

Nah, the 1DX for example is supposed to have a native ISO of 51,200 meaning that only 102,400 is digitally push processed and everything below that relies on adjusting sensor gain.

This would be amazing if it's true.
