Perhaps hauling around a $3000 FF with $2000 worth of glass isn't the answer after all......
I've pondered this over the last few days. Lost my Samsung Note 3 phone and hunting around for a new one started to take interest in the camera performance of some of these new things, even the cheaper non-Western brand ones you can get directly from China (which is what I ended up doing, saved a fortune, like the difference is nearly a new Zeiss lens!)

Then this Huawei P9 phone with Leica dual lens set up appears. Lazer focusing too! Expensive at launch, but it's certainly getting there.

For normal on-screen viewing is it really worth having big, heavy expensive gear any longer? Zoom and all that accepted.

that's probably Y Samsung discontinued their compact range and ? possibly the NX range, phone capability is capturing great images.

The add on stuff is getting better and better too...actual cameras for basic photography haven't got much longevity , 2 years down the track we will only need Highly specialised cams imo

It'd be a lot easier. I'd never even considered phone cameras before, but will keep tabs on this from now on. Looks promising.

I think if a snapshotter's only used a plastic Canikon and kit lens, they could probably do everything they need with a phone.

But most of us on this forum have never had a soup for dinner every day philosophy.

We're here because we believe in the best tool for the job, and that means a body with a sensor bigger than they'll put in a phone, and interchangeable lenses depending on whether we're doing a portrait, landscape, sports or macro.

Yes exactly,

Already we have the CM1 Panasonic hybrid, only a 1inch sensor but the images have to be enlarged quite a bit to show any inferiority to bigger sensors

the software/processors will catch the bigger sensors eventually

Most photos taken these days are with a phone, "photographers" will dwindle away with time

Sobering, isn't it.

I have done some fairly decent work with my phone cams and currently use my Samsung S5 in preference to the Olympus XA that I used to carry for spur of the moment shots.

Yes it is.
Whatever you may think of phone cams they are redefining what a camera is for the general public and, most importantly for us on this forum, what a "serious" camera needs to be.
My own guess is that in 5 years or so the hot spot of tech development for a serious shooters camera will be in the 1" sensor range but time will tell.

1st time posting here... used my OnePlus X to take a couple of shots while out on my bike down here in Cornwall, not the best camera phone in the world but does the job!

Testing out a new saddle, liking it atm.

Cheers, Steve

Love a cross bike, Steve - and the afternoon light on it was good, too.

Thanks, it's a tad heavy for a true crosser but could be used for it, it's classed as a commuter, but it's come all do all kind of machine, quite fun for taking out on gravel as the steel frame pings about nicely.

Cheers, Steve

I don't think 'real' CX bikes are practical - cantilever brakes rather than discs to keep the weight down, gearing actually quite high because you only race with them and instead of changing down to go up an incline they put it on their shoulders and run up!

'Gravel Grinder', maybe?

A good term for them, not fast enough for the road (though hit 40mph down hill the other day....disc brakes do give confidence..) and too heavy for CX.
Will stick to my plodding along... I've got this for when it gets really rough.

Singular Swift 29er, currently having an Alfine wheel built.

Also a phone pick to keep with the thread theme....

Cheers, Steve

Nexus 5 + panoramic mode of google camera. Processed in Snapseed, VSCO, nasty wires removed in Photoshop.
