Official images as in their best efforts to showcase a new product? Not off to a good start.
But weren't the sample images of X100 just as bad when they announced it?

While I adore the camera, those samples look weak (given the claims). The 60mm macro at 2.4 looks very soft. The 35mm at 1.4 is either soft or misfocused, but I'd bank on soft. Perhaps the most troubling thing I see is the noise. There's quite a bit of color blotches even at low ISO. Part of that certainly software related, but it reminds me of the Foveon sensors (which still exhibit the same blotch color patterns). Here's hoping at least that part of the IQ can be resolved or mitigated with firmware updates.

This camera is quite interesting. I absolutely love the styling and control layouts (of both lenses and body) - perfecto! The lenses (potential IQ aside) look to be a fantastic professional starter prime kit (with a good looking roadmap no less). I think it's fantastic that they keep challenging the traditional Bayer pattern sensors, there certainly is room for improvement.

Maybe my eyes are bad, but those shots look fine to me.....the flower...who knows what that's all about? I see the great Fuji colors, and I love that! Yes, I will have to have this camera.......maybe I wouldn't be so interested, but the little x10 has made a huge Fuji impression on me. To have the same Fuji results with a large sensor, which allows cropping more easily....... this has to be what I need. Well, maybe not what I need, the x10 is more in line with my abilities, but I won't be able to resist....and I also love that new flash unit.It sits nice and low, not as prone to being knocked about or in your way.

Thanks for posting this info.....it's certainly some nice camera porn! That tingle up my leg is pretty emphatic after reading/viewing this thread!
Regards!

I don't remember. They say your memory is the second thing to go. And I don't remember what's the first.

I've been satisfied with the quality of my X100 shots and it seems logical to expect this to match or improve on that. I wouldn't mind a hint at its focus speed just to know. If they didn't have any mention of that in their check list of improvements, I'm wondering...

Well, I also own X100 and their sample shots are nowhere near the results I get from its .RAF files.

Personally, I think the person who took the sample shots as if he/she was shooting a camera with an IS (1/8s on 60mm Macro? 1/6s on 35mm?) and ended up with the images that we see on their website.

A manufacturer's sample shots are never very interesting.

I suppose we can agree on that. But at least they should give the potential buyers some ideas what the camera could do, especially when they say the sensor resolution can outresolve the full frame sensor.

They also uploaded some images on X Pro 1 website. I personally like those images more even if they are downsized ones, however.

Odd, it appears someone already has X Pro 1 in his hand. The EXIF says he used XF35F1.4 at ISO 1600 F2.8 S1/50s.

Update: This guy seems to have a relationship with Mr. Hiroshi Kawahara in some way. He said he also got to test pre-production model of X100.

The waterfall shot was the most interesting to me.

There is some serious detail being captured there and the onboard sharpening seems to be doing a decent job

In the X-Pro 1 Flickr group noted above there is a comment on one of the photos which a person asks about the focus speed. The answer doesn't sound like an improvement was made in that area.

Well, let's hope it has been improved in some way. Using AF-AE lock can be tedious, sometimes.

The picture from 18/2 is rather good in terms of sharpness/details. Official samples are always strange. And nothing to say.

If those are in-camera jpegs, they aren't bad really and I expect more from raw. My major concern however, is lens quality. The last thing I want is another misaligned lens. Their 60mm sample seems to suffer a little, but inconclusive. The 18mm looks promising though.

I remember this user name of Hugo Poon. I greatly admire at his Hong Kong street photography using various Fuji p&s with F30 and F31 back when Fuji stood out among other p&s in low light shooting in the years of 96. I remember he gets very popular and greatly admired in the fuji Forum in Dpreview where his posts are greatly followed and admired. I recalled he later went into Fuji SLR with S2 or something along that line and perhaps joined Nikon dSLR at some point but I am not certain in my distant memory of this greatly admired Hong Kong photographer of mine discovered in Dpreview.

Regards,
Hin

According to Thom Hogan:

"Eventually, nine lenses will be launched, with the widest being 14mm (21mm equivalent). An optional metal grip will be available, a Leica M-mount adapter will be another option. The camera ships with Silkypix as the supplied raw converter (a slight step in the right direction--Fujifilm's own software efforts leave much to be desired)."

Hmmm...given that, would you guys consider ditching a DSLR?
