Holy cow! It's the YELLOW SUBMARINE!! Guess those Beetles didn't have many friends if they had them all aboard. The fellow who operated this was an intrepid adventurer-explorer. He went in a pressurized steel ball lifted by a helium balloon and set an altitude record at the time, one of the first humans to reach the stratosphere. There was a bag failure in a later ascent and there is a famous painting of a second (of three) crewmen pushing him out of the hatch in which he was stuck so that he could parachute to safety.

I'm thinking to get an older MFT camera to use with the Pana 25/1.7 lens. No need for a viewfinder, I'm looking at Pana GF1, GX1, and Oly EP2. Or rather, I'm seeing these available. Online reviews seem to say the GX1 is much better built than the other two, while controls and such as more similar. Does anyone have experience with the GX1 and one of the other two to weigh in? Image quality would be fine from any for me.

I own a GX1. I used it for a year or so prior to getting the GX7. I also own the external viewfinder that fits the GX1 and LX7 which I also own. The dynamic range is a bit lower than the GX7 and it lacks any type of IBIS. Additionally the rear LCD is prone to delamination but this problem is mostly a cosmetic issue. The surface of the LCD gets mottled looking which looks awful when the screen is off but when the screen is on the picture looks normal to me.

It isn’t a bad camera in many ways but in that timeframe I’d lean to the Olympus cameras for ibis. Unless the only lenses planned to be used are Panasonic and may benefit from DFD. I use it with and without the viewfinder.

Are you considering the LX100 or is interchangeable lenses a requirement, or perhaps a prime only focus precludes the zoom?

I have the G95 for general use, the main appeal of this second body is price and small size to be used with the 25/1.7. I was looking at a EP2, it would have saved a few $ but the main concern was looks with the lens, the gx1 seems to match a bit better
Didn't know DFD is available with the gx1, but that's a plus too since all my AF lenses for mft are Panasonic

If you want small and get the max AF speed with your Panasonic lenses, you should definitely get the GX9. It's really fun to use, my wife loves hers.

I just ordered the gx1 for not much over $100, so thanks all for the comments... I was considering the gx9 when I bought the g95, it's a nice camera, but it's not "retro digital" or cheap enough for this purpose

It's not cheap, but the silver version it's kind of retro.

Night blooming water lilies at Longwood Gardens. Pany G9 hand-held. The problem is determining what the color should be. Hitting the auto under color balance in LR turned these white, which is probably their true color. But when on the scene my eyes saw them slightly yellowish because of the artificial light on them.
