Despite all the beauty of the country, I don't want to show only the positive aspects. Garbage is a huge problem. The infrastructure does not provide sufficient garbage collection and the people are not sensitive/aware enough of the impact of their behaviour.

My personal takeaway was trying to act as an example and putting even more effort on minimizing garbage and plastic. I just hope that mankind can manage this, that everyone can make a contribution and so eventually that much garbage at the hike to Sri Pada disappears one day.

Does look quite lovely, and agree that one should think about the environmental impacts. Plastic bottles are a nuisance, but necessary where the local water supply isn't safe.

Thanks guys! Horton's plains is in contrast a positive example: To enter Hortons plains, one needs to register and pay a fee. Since many want to enter early, there is quite a queue. On the very positive side: they check rucksacks for garbage in order to make sure the area is not polluted!
