I assume you mean the 17mm f/1.8? I have the f/2.8 and I like it but I hear it isn't as good as the 20mm Panasonic or the 17mm 1.8 Oly. It isn't nearly as compact however is it?
Yes, I think I'd get the 1.8, this time. I had the 2.8 version when I had an E-pl1, and it was quite nice (I posted shots earlier in the thread from it) in terms of colour and contrast. Maybe not as good with sharpness. It is much smaller than the 1.8, though, and quite a bit cheaper!

I am quite deliberate, so slower focus doesn't worry me too much, but it definitely takes a pause longer than say the 45mm oly (which is fast). I never owned the 20mm (I), so can't comment there - the (II) version is supposed to be quicker. I'd say absolutely fine for anything where there isn't fast motion, or you have to watch close focus distance changes.

Interestingly, the 17mm 2.8 is much slower than the 20mm II to focus.

I think I will start looking for a 12-32 to go with my 35-100 - but I need to figure out where to sell the 14-42. Here in the marketplace I will list it of course but I think the M43 buying population is small here. Other suggestions?

I am considering selling my E-M10 and that occasioned me to start looking at the E-M5 II and the probably later this year M1 replacement.

Since I'd been following the K-1 release and so on it was kinda interesting to compare, although I'm not in the market for the K-1.

For instance, tethering is one of the things I miss on the M10. Not only does the M5 II have it, but it appears the tethering software is free. Tethering isn't available on the comparable (in the lineup) K-3II.

For pixel shift, Oly has released a plugin to make better use of the PS tech in Photoshop. But with Pentax no dice. We're limited to the PDCU software, which is much worse than the Oly Viewer software.

C'mon Pentax; catch up.

I also thought it interesting Oly sells a "Pro" package with the M5 II, and a few of its top line lenses for $4k, a significant discount. I can't afford that but I've always been surprised more manufacturers don't do that. It almost tempted me to buy it and then sell a lens or two and maybe make a bit of a profit, although it doesn't seem to be THAT good a deal.

Anyone here got any input on whether the M5 II is a decent upgrade from the M10? I could really use the weatherproofing and tethering. But I wonder if I should wait for the new M1, although I don't think I can.

Thanks!

I'm really happy with my M5. I just wish I got the silver one just for that extra old school look.
