If not inspired, I am always awed by Gothic architecture. Looking at a ceiling like that, I am stunned. How did they dream of it? And how on this Earth did they build it ??? Truth is, humans have always been visionary and inventive.

The truth is even more fantastic than you might realize! I actually looked into that a while back, all of the stones are held together by gravity alone like a house of cards. Makes you think when walking inside a cathedral knowing the roof is held together with nothing but gravity. The pic is from the Turku castle in Finland built in the 13th century. Here's a shot of the miniature model that shows how the bricks were laid for the roofs. The final phase was to remove the wooden supports from under the stones.
