I'm going to have a look at (you know what that means...) a used GX80 later today. I'm more than a bit worried I'm opening another Pandora's box of lenses

Yep

That GX80 (which is the same as the GX85) somehow followed me home. It came with the kit 12-32, the extra grip (which makes the camera more comfortable to hold, but also adds bulk and weight), and a bag that fits quite well. It's a heavy camera for the size - closer to twice the weight of my old GR!

Umm, and there is an Oly 75-300 on it's way in the mail

Here's a quick test shot, just resized on the phone. Looks good, I think. And I do like the tilt screen!

I haven't had much of a chance to work with it yet, but we're joinging the Micro Four Thirds Club at work. We're in the process of switching over to shooting with Panasonic GH-5s cameras. So far, I've only used it to shoot a few things on video, but I have to say that I really like what I'm seeing.

The 12-32 is an annoyingly useful lens. And the GX80 has IBIS (my GM5 does not). Then there is the panny 20mm, and then the Oly 45mm, oh and the tiny 35-100. For fun, add the 12-60mm kit. And suddenly you have another system, insanely capable video, and reasonably good stills. Another system..... . But at least it's small and fits into a tiny bag.

And then I thought, haha! maybe I should get a zs200 for backcounty (and carry my GR alongside) and sell all of this. The trouble is, micro 4/3 is fun. So I haven't.

Friends shouldn't lure firends into the abyss of LBA

Not that I need any help I'll see if I can stick to the two zooms for now and leave the prime shooting with the K-1. Now, if I dip my toes into the waters of video I will need something with a focus ring, at least! But no, not yet. I think...

There's always a "better" way, but no matter what you choose it's a set of compromises. You have the SZ200 at one end and the 645Z (or Hasseblad) at the other. The drawbacks of one tend to be the strengths of the other. The different ILC systems lie somewhere on the line between the two with their own sets of compromises. All we can do is to pick the set that is the least bad for us.

Or the sets

Exactly right.
I originally bought (back) into micro 4/3 for a compact, travel sized body with the capability of changing small lenses. All of which can fit into my business backpack. Now, to actually post something!

After a few days of light use of the GX80 I'm slowly finding a setup that works for me.
- touch screen off! The runaway focus point is just too annoying.
- direction keys move the focus point
- Fn1 sets ISO
- Fn3 sets focus mode
- AF/AE lock is assigned to back button focus
- "AF+MF" (quick shift) set to ON

I wish I could configure the wheel-click to ISO rather than just EC (or just nothing at all in M mode...), but I guess the GR has spoilt me And some of the buttons are too flush with the surrounding surface to easily find without looking. All in all, though, it's quite possible to find a setup that works.

The screw-on grip is really nice to have when mounting the tele zoom, but not necessary with smaller lenses.

Has anyone found a way to combine pinpoint focus with manual focus mode on Panasonic? I find the combination of manual focus mode and neck-button focus very nice (as the camera will use autofocus when pressing the AF button even in manual focus mode). The bonus is that I get focus peaking for both manual and auto focusing - I haven't found any way to do that with the normal "AF+MF" setting.

However, while I can choose pinpoint focusing on the AF modes I only get a fairly large rectangle area when I switch to manual focus mode. I would like to get the best of both worlds.
