Yes the two lenses 12-32 35-100 I spoke of are the compact versions.

Not sure at all about the R. I've read many different claims.

Sadly I've never used the 100-300.

Not by a stretch. Anticipating, starting tomorrow, a cold wave about as bad as it gets here. Actual temps about 4~8F, but strong winds will push the chill to about minus 10F (minus 13 to 18C actual, wind chill to minus 23C). That's not a record low for my spot, but such cold doesn't come every winter season and it's rare in December. Time for the down-filled parka and a ski mask because the one place I feel the cold most, and have for as long as I can remember, is around my eyes, especially the head area called the "temple." Difficult to keep that area covered and warm without impeding your vision.

Tried the Lumix G1 for photomicroscopy earlier today, using the fold-out screen to focus etc. My microscope is an oldish medical lab design that has a fairly high vertical tube and eyepiece for cameras, it's almost at eye level so the screen is much better than trying to peer down a normal SLR's viewfinder. I haven't done much in this field in the last ten years or so, and I really need to brush up my technique etc. Results were OK but could be much better - the slide I tried was a bit of an antique, a Victorian sample of whale bone, the picture is at 30x magnification. My set-up for this was a Nikon microscope adapter, with a Nikon to Eos adapter, then an Eos to Micro 4/3 adapter, which is a stack about 8" high on top of the microscope tube, and really doesn't help. I just ordered a basic Micro 4/3 microscope adapter which is about an inch long, I hope that it will be an improvement. I'm also going to get a remote control to reduce vibration.

Meanwhile I need to read up on things like magnifying the viewfinder image to focus, also tweak the microscope lighting etc., I think it's probably going to need a good clean if nothing else. I'll probably post more next year.

Update - forgot to say I ordered the small microscope adapter here:

23.2mm Microscope Mount Adapter with T Ring for Olympus Panasonic Micro 4/3 | eBay
It has the advantage of including a T-mount which I was planning to get anyway. Ships from China but I'm not in a rush for it.

The release cable here:
Wired remote control / Remote control for Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 DMC-G2 DMC-G3 | eBay
Ships from Germany.

Also getting a stage micrometer so that I can give the size of things accurately - I can't seem to find my old one anywhere
Microscope Objective Stage Micrometer Calibration Slide 1mm/100 0.01mm C1 | eBay
Also from China.

I realised how to magnify the viewfinder or screen image last night but due to Xmas preparations etc. won't be able to have a good play with this again for a couple of days.

In case you weren't, be sure to use electronic shutter. Also, consider focus stacking.
