SPRING 2021!
Well, ok, it's going to get down into the teens (F) next week but Crocuses don't seem to mind.

That is a very nice image. I have a very slight preference for the B&W version, although to my eye it's slightly easier to catch some details in the color version. For example, I spotted the bridge at far left very quickly in the color version, and went back to the monochrome to confirm that it could be seen in that image as well.

Thank you - The E-PM1 is an OK performer. ISO 200 at its lowest leaves much to be desired. The Sigma is wide enough to capture this image whole in one shot, but yes it is not the best lens out there (not complaining about it just being realistic).

I was glad I rememebered to pack this camera yesterday night, as I was able to test its performance in this settings... Likely will not be using it for this much more. But overall, I'm happy with the result. Someone with better PP skills might get more off of the shot, but I'll leave it where it is.

You could make a good case for pigeons. But go to any garbage dump where in areas with populations of seagulls and pigeons and you'll see a lot more pigeons. Plus people actually eat pigeons.Does anyone eat seagulls? That suggests that maybe seagulls are equipped with more of that unique rat essence (i.e., the qualities that make a rat a rat) than the hapless pigeon.

More rats, or rather seagulls, with wings, compliments of the Oly 100-400:

this is a color image, but even maxing out the saturation slider doesn't change how it looks

g95 with the 45-200 ii, which turns out to make nicer images than the internet told me. got it for daily walks where the 100-400 is too much

Yesterday the cold eased up in Colorado, and I ventured out into Clear Creek Canyon, above Golden, to do some abstracts of the ice that forms in deepest winter, which came late this year. A slight dusting of snow drew highlights onto the canyon's rock walls, and a brilliant sun lit up the snowy river ice. Marvelous!

I took my trusty K-3 with a DA 50-135, and for for comparison my newest shootin' iron, a Panasonic GX8. It's the first mirrorless camera I've enjoyed using, because the EVF doesn't suck (as most of you probably know). Once again, I forgot to swivel it upright, because that's such a unique feature, but I swear I will next time. As always, I found the K-3's OVF a more pleasant visual experience, with one glaring exception. Colors were true, and there was detail in the shadows. My finished RAWs looked like what I saw in the OVF. The GX8 wasn't bad, though. It's EVF really proved valuable when I aimed south, into the sun, to show the brilliance of the snow-covered ice. While the Pentax forced me to squint and shoot fast, the EVF protected my eyes from the hazardous sun exposure so I could pause and consider my composition. I suspect the Panasonic will become my favorite for this kind of photo, and many sunsets.

My three MFT lenses showed surprisingly little variation. I had the two smallest and cheapest along with the most expensive. The little pocket rockets, the slow Lumix 12-32 and 35-100, delivered impressive detail, critically sharp on my big iMac screen. By themselves, these two lenses might be the best reason to own an MFT camera. When I'm willing to carry a larger package, the PL 12-60 does the job of both, and takes color rendition and detail another step beyond. This round still goes to the Pentax, because its dynamic range was clearly better. When I had to lift shadows in LR, I can go all the way with the K-3 and recover clean color with minimum noise. In the GX8's shadows, there's more noise than color. But what about sharpness? Isn't that the most important thing? Not to me. The overall sharpness difference between the two systems and formats was negligible, and all were sharp enough for any practical purpose.

Enough talk, but where are the photos? Here's a few-
