Sheese; FF, 36MP, Nikon AF and "only" $3k. This is terribly tempting

The K-5 replacement will need to be 1) awesome and 2) cheaper that what the K-5 was on release othewise a second hand D700 will be cheaper.
My thoughts exactly.

Looks like interesting times ahead for Pentax.

Pixel density is the same as the K-5. I don't think there is anything insane about this, its a killer move if the ISO is as good as the D700.
Actually, that's a good point. I should double check my calculations some times

Sadly, no.

The My Menu didn't appear until the D300S.

As for the D800, what a camera!

But it is far more of a camera then anything I would ever need.

I'm wondering if Nikon has any plans to release a low MP FF camera, like the D700. Maybe at a lower price point?

The D700 is still my dream camera, now maybe the used market will open up?

If the earthquake hadn't happened I probably wouldn't have bought my K-5. My original intent was a D800 but I wasn't really interested in a D700 so I went elsewhere due to the delay. This new D800 just might entice me to sell off my Pentax gear unless Pentax announce an unexpected (and inspirational) camera soon. A D800, 24-70, 70-200 VRII, a fast 50 and 85 and a super-wide and is about all I'd ever need. As much as I have always loved Pentax (K2, MX, LX and now 2x K-5) I reckon I could live with that Nikon stuff.

Please, no "sell me you stuff and P**s off" messages etc.... ok?
