Nikon D800 images now available

Well, here's the new full frame D800 from Nikon:

And seems that the rumors about the 36MP's were true. Reactions have been as expected so far, at least from the rumors website. People are going gaga on how "sexy" and "beautiful" it is. My reaction is "Really"? It's just another contemporary SLR body. Anyhow, the main specs should be announced by tomorrow.

Did the D700 have those buttons on top of that dial on the upper left of that camera (from the back view)? Seems like a very odd place for buttons...

That's been a Nikon thing for quite a while now.

I'm not a big fan of them. I've had my D700 for a few months now and I'm still not used to it.

Wonder how many megapickles will this camera have? 16 or 30+?? If it's 30+ and the ISO performance is as good as the D700, then this will fly off the shelves (at the right price). Who am I kidding, this will sell like hot cakes regardless

For most of the functions it's not a big deal, but the ISO function is really frustratingly hard to access. Try increasing the ISO to get a faster shutter speed while shooting with a 70-200 mounted.. Gotta take your left hand off the lens and cling onto the camera for dear life.

You're right, it's definitely most annoying in terms of changing the ISO (as compared to my K-5).

That is my #1 nit pick with the D300, is the location of the ISO button.

The D300S, you can program the function button to ISO, but not on the D300.

I think the buttons appeared in that location back in the F100 days.

36mp D800 is rather a 24mp D3x successor
16mp D4 will continue 12mp D3/D3s/D700 line

Considering how much more often we change ISO these days compared to the film era, you'd think they'd make some changes.

I tried it out mainly on the D300, so I could not reprogram the ISO, got really frustrated with it.

I tend to shoot with Auto ISO more often on my Nikon gear then I did with my Pentax gear because of teh poor ISO button placement.

Exactly. That said, it wasn't until I got the D700 that I truly appreciated how easy and fast it is to change the ISO on the K-5

Man I never even knew - I thought I had it annoying on my k-x.. but seeing a dial on the left hand of the body makes me rethink a lot of things!

Although the K-x isn't as quite easy to change as the K-5/K-7, it's still a lot better than putting a button on the top/left of the body

The Sony A850 is in between the D700 and K-5; at least it's on the right side of the body, but it's on the top which makes it a little harder (for me anyway) to quickly change it on the fly.
