Look how fast that autofocus is in the video! Wow... and a fast aperture too, but according to the comments $17,000 price tag, ouchhhh

As a gear geek I love it but if Pentax released THEIR 500mm/f4 lens for $17,000 I would not be happy they wasted resources on something I could never get.

Not overly impressed since my comparatively cheap 500/4L autofocuses at least as fast on my 7D. 17k is nuts.

long telephotos are very simple in terms of optical design compared to most shorter primes, and while thats not the only reason, it is a main contributing factor to telephotos like this being able to focus fast. most people assume that these big lenses must be slower than shorter ones, but many times its the opposite. pretty much all modern USM type fast aperture super telephotos focus lightning fast regardless of brand. 17k is nuts.

Come on, folks, this will probably only have a street price of $15,999. And at that price, it starts to look like a bargain. You can't judge based on MSRP these days.

Nikon and canon 500mm lenses are under US$10 000, so this Sony is very expensive. The latest 600 glass from both of them is under US$13 000....
