NX200 Dpreview, at last...

Not a surprising review. Amusing to see how they refuse to make more than a passing reference to the fact that the RAW high ISO samples from ACR actually show lower noise and more detail than the vaunted NEX-5N and NEX-7, and continually talk about how it's got mediocre jpeg quality at high ISO but great detail at low ISO in the conclusions and elsewhere. Also a passing reference to being the second-quickest and most reliable mirrorless they've worked with for autofocus.

Sorta reminds me of when they came out with the K-7 review and had finally started adding RAW file comparisons, and accidentally discovered that the old K20D actually had lower high ISO noise in RAW than the 50D and D300 which they had pronounced superior back when its jpeg-only review was published. Nary a peep. Samsung sensors deserve more credit than they usually get.

Oh well. A curiously biased review means the NX200 will come down in price quite a bit by the time I'm ready to move on from my current camera, just one reason why my next purchase will be a difficult decision indeed. Hopefully I've got a while to decide!

This is why I don't care much about the dpreview commentary anymore. They are competent at describing the camera features and have nice pictures, but once they get to judging performance, their commentary seems to contradict their own image samples.

Well they both got silver(Nex 5N) and the 2% difference could be decided by the price difference alone. The thing I'm concerned about is the buffer/write speeds, but I didn't need DPReview to tell me about that. I think the NX20 might end up being the perfect camera for me.

The NX200 does look very good, but is it true there are no plans for an external EVF? If there was one I would personally rather have an NX200 than a NEX-7 since Samsung has a better lens lineup.

He means that there are more lenses available for the NX system (without using an adapter) than are available for the NEX system. Also, Samsung's pancake lenses are more highly regarded than the 16mm that Sony has developed.

The sensor results look pretty good. I think Pentax could get very good results from that sensor. Did anyone notice the size of the RAW files? 47MB? What the hell is going on?

Yeah they need to compress and allow us to use DNG.

I think the NX20 will be for you then. The NX20 will use the same sensor but it will have a built in EVF and better buffer performance.

How many lenses are available for the NX from Samsung? I see an 18-55, a 20-50, a 50-200 and 18-200 zooms, and a 20 pancake and a 30 pancake. Are there others?

Samsung is a great corporation.....and one of the top ten largest in the world. Everything they make (ships, locomotives, electronics) is well engineered and developed and their goal of becoming a camera giant will certainly be realized in a short period of time, no doubt. They have the brightest and most highly educated workforce of any corporation on earth.......which makes me wonder ...where the hell is the viewfinder?

If it had one, I would sure be willing to give it a try, but a LCD screen is worthless where I live, just too bright and blinding for outside shooting. Otherwise, I think this is a superb little camera, with great accessories and lenses available. As for DPR.......they always see just what they want to see in the end...or what they "want you to see" is actually more accurate.
Regards!

I wonder how many people would be thrilled if Pentax reverted to Samsung sensors!

I don't really care about the image sensor manufacturer for my Pentax camera. But I trust them to choose the best one for K-5 successor.

If Fuji isn't just blowing smoke, I wonder if they'd sell their sensor to other manufacturers.
