Interesting thread. I agree, P&S make me feel free sometime and I still have a cam for some interesting shots. I bought a Fuji F70EXR from market here for $70 and it was worth it. Some pics from F70EXT

I agree
very nice indeed -
especially the sepia toned portrait (beard with turban - dscf3526x.jpg) -
be lucky if I could manage that with a dSLR and studio set up

Every year since the start 2007 I shoot 500 Songs for Kids -
that's 500 songs over 10 consecutive nights -
ie: 50 songs therefore 50 acts per night - over a 6 hour period -
that comes to about 7 mins per performance including the stage changeover and soundchecks....

Anyway this year I have shot exclusively with the cheapo Canon PowerShot A1200 -
a few of the 265 shots (6 out of 10 days so far):

From last night - still with the cheapo Canon A1200 -

really like this shot
(stoopidly simple settings - nothing sophisticated... even using on-board flash)

Truly! It reminds me of some of the classic character studies shot in the '30s and '40s. Outstanding.

not exactly a venue with spectacular lighting
(it's a rib shack)

But reasonably good shots can be had...
