X100 auto focus issue

Hi all,
just wondering if anyone can help with the Fuji X100?
I picked up one pretty cheap and started playing with it.

One thing I noticed was that it had no issues with focusing on object further away... say 1m+
but when try to focus something on the table, say a can of coke, it would not be able to focus automatically... I would focus far, then back and it might pick it up....

Using AF-S and AF-C at the moment... and both are having difficulties...

Current version is 1.20 and will update to 1.21 tonight...

Any pointers?

Cheers

No. But it wasn't that far that would consider in the macro range? Maybe about 1 1/2 feet away?

I must say the high ISO jpeg seems to be coming out very bright. Not sure of the noise till I load on laptop later tonight

I don't know what the minimum focus distance is but 18 inches is pretty close. Try macro mode anyway. Optionally, put it in manual focus mode and push the AEL/AFL button to focus. It will do macro automatically.

If you start getting over exposed shots, you could have the sticky aperture problem that affected a percentage of them. My X100 developed that problem and Fuji fixed it within a week. One way to confirm it is to shoot at say, f8, and a shot at f2. If the f2 shot is fine and other apertures are over exposed it is a good indication.

I think it is .8 meters (nearly three feet) before you have to engage macro mode, but I might be wrong. Check the manual (which you should anyway ).

Do you mean the exposure issue? No. It is way over exposed when it has that problem. You'll know it.

If the camera has been used a lot, chances are it should have happened already with the previous owner if it was going to I would guess.

well... lets hope so... the previous owner had it since june-11, and the person I bought it from is the 2nd owner...

yeap, you were correct too in regards to the Macro setting... and using the "AEL/AFL" button worked well...

This works quite well for close up focusing. Also have the EVF on instead of the OVF. If using the OVF close up you will notice the background is in focus more often than the object.

I am very surpriesed that by using the AEL/AFL and able to lock on focus so easily... why does it seem so difficult to set it in autofocus?

My friend and girlfriend tried to use it, and both have gave up on using it because it is just considered as not user friendly for them.

I admit I am having some difficulty with it under low light setting too...

EVF or LCD goes without saying in closeup, no?

No doubt. But they should try a film camera with no built in meter and I think they'll change their mind.
