Looking at the example photos , I wouldn't change from either system to get the other. Less DoF in the 85, but that's what you'd expect.

So why say that the DA55 is the "85" of APS-C when it is not? And it is perhaps a *less* fair comparison to the Nikon 85 than the FA50 from a DOF/bokeh perspective (never liked the DA55 bokeh).

There is no such thing as a "fair" comparison when we are using different camera bodies, even if the sensor size is the same, so let's not kid ourselves. But there are degrees of fairness, and focal length is not the only parameter.
Oh dear... not another one?

You know what I meant. The '55 is the '85' because it's the closest FL to the 85 after you do the multiplication.

You would have to divide 85 by 82.5 and multiply the distance from subject to the 85 on FF to get a 'fair' comparison though.

Both images were shot in RAW and have IDENTICAL PP

(This is just a quick teaser, I did a set in the Garden and Kitchen)

The 85 should have been backed off a bit more to get a real comparison.

Prehaps, but thats not what I wanted to do, I setup my tripod and left it in one place, I wasnt trying to do a FOV comparison. I was comparing 77mm to 85mm I wasnt trying nor did I want to match the FOV.

It seems our friend bossa has an "interesting" perspective of "fair" and "real"

I understood your intent and I think what you did is valid.

I'm obviously missing the point here as I was unaware that I was actually making jokes.

Yes, you are.

The original poster was asking for a comparison between two specific lenses: the Nikon 85/1.8 with the FA77. The original poster was not looking for FOV matching.

For reference, this is what the original poster said in reply to my post.

Thanks Christine. I agree that Nikon 85 color does not look as polished compared to other, this is where I love FA 77.
Since it appears the original poster's query has been addressed by both myself and TOUGEFC, maybe we can move beyond your notion of what is a "fair" comparison and what is not?

So when you said "I don't mind being laughed at if I know the reason. Seriously" you actually weren't being serious at all, nor were you actually interested in knowing the reason.

I have way too many interesting things to do today other than this conversation. Please ignore me in future.
