they probably want to sell a lot more FF lenses with that camera, and it wont have the specs of the D4 or the D800
why do you buy a K5, the Ks is so much cheaper ?

Mike - there is a very simple answer to that when one is APS-C and the other FF

you did not understand me

K5 and Ks are APS-C and yet you buy a K5 because is better

D600 / D800 / D4 are FF, and people will still buy the 2 more expensive because they are better, but some will buy th D600 just like some buy the Ks => cheap and do the job (one as a first camera, the other as a first FF or a complement FF to a D800 for exemple)

Sorry - my misunderstanding !

Well the specs on the D600 are rumoured to be very competitive with the D800 (but nothing official has been released so really we do not know what the specs are going to be like - although the AF is rumoured to be inferior to that in the D800). IMHO there is no way Nikon will release a FF camera to compete directly with the D800 so the D600 will be crippled in some ways and IMHO not less than US$2,000 and more like US$2,200 - 2,300.

I think if it comes out at $1500 it will be a game changer and if it comes out below or at $2000 it will still be a winner. I'm personally hoping it will be at $1500.
Nikon is selling bodies for $500 less than they 'should' charge, lately.

Since I think they could sell the D600 at $2500 that puts the price at $2k.

Nikonrumors has a new update up about the D600.

If true, I'd seriously consider switching over in about a year or so. Pair a $1500-$1700 D600 with the 28mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.8 and the 85mm f/1.8 and you've got a pretty nice setup.

I've currently been using a K200D with the 15mm and 40mm Limiteds along with the 58mm Voigtlander - but I've been wanting more resolution, a better AF system and a large, bright, gorgeous VF that a 24x36mm format camera can provide.
I have owned my D600 a few days now, and taken a few hundred shots - I'm just blown away! So the Pentax cameras and lenses are gone, at least most, and I must say had Pentax even hinted about a FF camera I'd been a Pentaxian still. But, alas, no more! And the DA50-135 debacle (not even a little rebate offer - it really sucks) made me think twice before upgrading my Pentax stuff, so now I'm a Pentaxian, first, and foremost!

Steep learning curve to get fully used to the D600, but it sure takes awesome photos, even with me behind the viewfinder! A K-5 on steroids would maybe be similar?! Not a little amazed, and stunned! I used to have four Pentax DSLRs, now I have one, and three Nikon DSLRs, if you include the superb V1!

I bought mine for 1700 SEK, or roughly $2400, in Sweden.

Amazing camera!

Congrats, Tord! It is a very tempting camera indeed. Did you get it with the 24-85mm kit zoom or something else? It wouldn't be too expensive with that lens, but I wonder if it's good enough to make it worthwhile. I have decided that in the next few months I'll buy a FF to give it a try and D600 is one of the main options. I have lost all faith of Pentax ever releasing one...

I think Tord can tell you more about the D600 but it looks to be the match of the D800 in most aspects. I will get one to back up my D800. I was going to change my K5 for a K5IIs but I think I will forego that and just keep the K5 and a couple of Pentax lenses for now as the only time I have taken it out since I bought the D800 was as back-up (with the Sigma 50-150 on it) at a paid sports event I was covering. The D800 is just freaking amazing and the IQ is stunning. Though the AF is superb even it struggles in some birding situations - so no-one should expect miracles ! Had Pentax brought out a FF camera then I would have bought it - however I can now see myself drifting away from Pentax since the Nikons are so damn good (and I didn't think I would ever say that).
