The RX-100 looks like it will be the best of compact camera options, but I for less than half, at $300 I just picked up an Olympus XZ-1 for those times when I don't want to lug around the NEX or Nikon 1.

It would be nice to have, but my NEX takes up very very little room and the results will blow away the RX100 any day.

Yes, but the NEX with anything other than the limiting and decidedly average 16mm won't fit into a trouser pocket.

There are times where you want to take better photographs than your phone can manage, but taking something with interchangeable lenses is just OTT. The RX100, like the S90/95/100, LX5 or XZ-1 is ideal.

Horses for courses. I wouldn't want to have a NEX with me any time I'm dressed in a suit, whereas the RX100 will be fine.

Yes, yes I know about the pockets and such, but 99% of the time I am out, on the go, or wearing a suit, I have a shoulder bag or satchel with me anyway and so far the NEX-5n with kit lens takes up no real space to mention. Sure. having something iPhone sized is even better I suppose, but image quality first, everything else second. My LX3 hasn't seeing the light of day since I bought my NEX...nor has my K-7 really. The NEX with the Sigma 30/2.8 is a tight little package and much easier to pocket than the kit lens.

That being said, I am looking forward to seeing what all this little RX100 can do and seeing what the price is like come end of the year....not that I need one really.

I am seriously intrigued by this camera. But I wonder if the larger sensor makes it worth 300 over the S100 or LX5.

Wait a few months and it'll only be $100-150 more. I'd say that's definitely worth it. It's an incredible little camera.

If and when the 808 comes to America/Canada, I heard it is expected to retail for a thousand dollars.
Available now, through Amazon, for $698.

IMHO, there is not really a HUGE amount of visible difference between the S100 and the RX100, even at 1600 ISO, if you look at the comparison test shots from Imaging Resource.

I want this sensor in my X10 body, because I love the x10 body feel and handling, and its superb quality.....and I would bet it is coming soon!
I also need an OVF and a hot shoe. Otherwise, the Sony looks like it is breaking new ground, which is good for all of us!
Regards!

The said-to-be, maybe, possibly upcoming Panasonic LX7 may fit that description. Plus have a large sensor.

Well, Fuji has set a trend, no doubt, and if others follow and improve, it's good news for us all. I'm pretty happy with the X10 IQ as it is, but it is the body that has addicted me. Very solid and the look and feel of a "real camera", just smaller. You have some added confidence just by picking it up and holding it. In my case, it makes me feel better than I actually am......that's how addictions start!

Regards!

Not a deep technical review, but I always enjoy reading what the fellows at Luminous Landscape write about in terms of usability from an enthusiast's/pro's perspective on camera gear.
