I could compare the optional EVF to the X-10 OVF, which although given it will cost some money,
combined with the XZ-1 will still come to less money than the X-10. And the EVF will offer 100%
coverage as opposed to 85% of the OVF in the X-10.

As you are with the X-10 so am I with the XZ-1, but I am always curious about what comes next?

I agree! And I did state that whatever makes you happy and shoot the most...is the camera for you! It may not make you feel any better...or worse....but Otis thinks your camera is "junk too". We are all different...even Otis!

Exactly! Also, I think we tend to forget that the the most important part of the camera is the person using it. It's got to feel good in the hands so you tend to pick it up and take it with you. If leads you to Olympus, great! If that leads you to a panny, great! And if it leads you to a Q (bias inserted here) super great!

No matter the camera, it is good to see a person in love with what they have.
Mrs Rupert never had any interest in photography until she used the X10 to shoot at that wedding, and now she is much more in tune with my hobby...which is great for those times I want to spend some cash on something new!

BTW- She said I got her tall buildings too blue.......so here is a better rendition for her!

Nikon Coolpix P500 with 22.5-810mm eqiv 36x optical zoom

I just ordered the Nikon P500 since I had my eye on it since it came out last year but did not want to pay the $399 price so when I received email from Cameta Camera that had a special 4th of July deal of $249.95 w/free shipping and 1 year warranty I purchased it. I also have 2.5% Ebates cash back coming. I have the Canon SX30 IS with 35x 24-840mm eqiv lens since Oct 2010 but it only has 720p HD video compared to the P500 1080p. I have always been a sucker for superzoom lenses since I purchased the 28-300mm Tamron back in 1999 for my Pentax 35mm SLRs and still use that lens on my DSLRs.

Here are a few links to some P500 shots :

Never! The perfect camera is always just around the corner...just around the bend...just the next new release. We are all waiting for it....have been since the very first camera was invented....and will be even after the perfect one comes along.

Not yet... I now have 6. 1 dslr, 2 m43, 3 PnS. Bad case of CBA. Oh yeah, the XZ-1 is excellent.

I am betting the Sony RX100 trumps them all, even the Q.

Jason
The RX100 looks like the one to get if you want the largest sensor in a pocket size camera with fixed lens.

It certainly is. From the images I've seen it produce, it positively destroys all the best current top rated compacts, including the XZ-1. The thing is I only paid $300 for my XZ-1 which is less than half of what the RX-100 will cost. However for $50 more than the X-10, the RX-100 is an no-brainer.

At the risk of adding another camera to mix, there are a lot of good compacts now. Here is a photo that I took last night in very low light with my Sony HX30V at ISO 3200. I haven't seen to many compacts that beat this with all of the options this little camera has.

Handheld at ISO3200

Exif data to prove it

It's always nice to have the option to shoot at a high ISO... but I'd rather shoot at the lowest possible ISO with a fast lens. The XZ-1 comes with a superb f1.8 lens which IMO puts in a different class from it's competition as evidenced in the link posted at the start of this thread.

Macro shots with the XZ-1 are an addictive blast.

The quality speaks for itself. And it sure beats packing around a DSLR!
