I played around out in the desert (near death valley) with the RX100 around sunset.

Hmm, these all look promising. Knowing Sony the price will not drop, but I wonder if they'll have any promotions. Out of curiosity, did any of you consider the G1X, or was this just the right size:quality ratio?

The RX100 fits in my pocket, the G1X with lens won't. The RX100 is, for me, a direct replacement for my Canon S90 (a camera I never really liked).

I know it's something unique, and you have to pay for quality, but I'm choking a bit on the price. I will probably end up with the g series pancake for my NEX. I am sure you guys will turn out brilliant results with this though.

I looked at something like a EMP1 + 14mm pancake, but in the end this Sony was smaller and having a 28-100 equiv lens means it's very versatile.

A grand total of ~60 shots but already I've got to say, this camera is freaking amazing Finally a P&S with decent IQ.

Yes.

Either Adobe Lightroom or Corel Aftershot for the later pictures. I prefer Corel as you don't need to import to the drive to edit and it provides layers. I'm getting the hang of editing the RX100's shots. It doesn't have the dynamic range of the K5 but it takes nice JPEGs. Hopefully they sort RAW compatibility for Lightroom of Aftershot quickly as RAW probably offers more with this camera. The detail is highly impressive for a point and shoot. This camera is taking them to a new era of usability. Its blazing fast to operate as well.

Twitch, awesome collection on Flickr!

Same reasoning as well for the G1X vs the RX100. I strictly desired a pocket camera. If I'm going large it's the K5 that's being used. I've had some Canon point and shoots as well as a 7D and just never warmed to them. The G1X sensor seems to be a varient of whats in the T2/3 7D so I'm familiar with the output.

They are all tools in the end. What they have done is finally given us a small point and shoot that you can control like a DSLR with a sensor that is almost as good. Hopefully this starts a race to get larger sensors into point and shoots.
