Some people have too much money
It was a one off so it's like buying a prototype basically (they made 2 the prototype and the final version 1 to the sheik 1 for leica - all paid for by the sheik with some pretty good profit margins built in I'm sure)

Wasn't the Zeiss one more expensive?

the zeiss price has never been confirmed but several million euros were hinted at by zeiss at the time so yeah I think you are right. Also sold to a sudi Oil sheik for taking pictures of antelopes apparently. the zeiss is actually larger and faster (1700MM and f4.0 and weighs 256kilos. it was designed for medium format though so in 35 mm terms it was more like a 1100mm given a 6x6 frame

The guy probably has mounted a PhaseOne on it now.

Or he's shooting with a D800E and 600/4 like any (well, kinda) sane person would.


But... to mount a Q on such a lens ... would be priceless.
