Sony's FF assult

Not to rub dirt in the wound, but Sony will be announcing a full line of FF camera's, even a "pocket" size one

Roundup: Sony unleashes a full-frame frenzy at Photokina | TechHive Beta Blog

Looks like Pentax might be in for a big let down if they don't do the FF soon...

thanks

Just looking through the site...it's seems sort of weird that the RX1 and A99 are priced equally. The flagship DSLR and flagship compact, costing the same 2.8k.

Seems to me like FF is the rage this days, lots of people carrying 5d and d700/800. I think that if Panasonic and Olympus weren't milking their 4/3's, they would also make FF.

A99 - looks brilliant.
RX1 - so close to brilliance. then we look at that price.

I would still prefer Nikon over Sony for now

Nice products and very innovative.

I like the RX1, looks fun. But I would never pay that kind of money for a "Compact". If it was $1200 I'd go for it.

The RX1 does look interesting, but that price...
If I had a lot of cash floating around, I'd probably invest in a Fujifilm XPro 1 set-up.

You need big pockets for all the money needed. An assault of the marginal 1% of the market.

Whats brilliant with a $2800 camera with one fixed lens? A very odd type of photographer who shots only at 35mm focal lenght and spending this kind of money. Compromises may be acceptable when on a budget....

That is because it is the sensor that cost money....

World's first full-frame point-and-shoot? Or is it even?

Amazon has the RX-1 and lists it as:

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #7 in Camera & Photo (See Top 100 in Camera & Photo)
#4 in Camera & Photo > Point & Shoot Digital Cameras

Did the K-01 ever make it that high at 1/3 the price and full K-mount support? I'm sure its rankings will fall pretty quick, but pre-orders are higher than the A99 right now.

People said the same thing about the Fuji X-100. It was too expensive for a fixed lens APS-C Mirror-less and Fuji sold well over 100,000 units. I think this camera will surprise a lot of people in sales.

It's a cool concept and at 1500 would probably sell loads...

I think the VG900 and the LA-EA3 are the most important announcements by Sony today.

It clearly shows the E mount is FF and that a NEX-9 is imminent. They just seem to want to announce it all by itself ...

And it is going to be a huge seller. Sony will finally break through and start gaining market share.

Well I can see this as the perfect small camera for professionals who can make the money for this kind of camera in one shoot... Or the rangefinder shooter who isnt a pro but loves photography and hates carrying around tons of lenses but wants pro IQ... I'm so glad I never invested in pentax's DSLR line up as I'd be kicking myself in the ass after this photokina... I know what I'll be saving up for all of next year, an RX1 and A99, untill than I'll enjoy my Q and use my MX for school...

EDIT: But while that time I'm saving up for FF, if Pentax does happen to release FF I'll obviously be on it, I'm just extremely cautious about where I spend this money as I wont have many times in my life to save up cash like this for a pro kit, I might have kids or something to raise...
