Pentax lenses on the full frame Sony VG900 camcorder

The VG900 is the first full frame mirrorless since it has a Sony NEX E-mount that takes low cost PK-NEX adapters. It could use all of the Pentax APS-C and full frame lenses since it has both APS-C and full frame modes. It shoots 1080p60 HD video at 28mb/s or 1080p24 with uncompressed HDMI output (220mb/s ) along with 24mp 6000x4000 full frame still jpeg/RAW with shutter speeds from 30- 1/8000 sec. It has the new angled OLED EVF that is a $750 option on the FF RX1 compact and comes with the new LA-EA3 full frame A mount adapter that I use with the fast 35mm F1.4 Bower (Samyang ) wide angle with Sony A mount.
Original .MTS file (1920x1080 / 39MB) file download available on Vimeo :

I would love to see more tests from this. It should look beautiful. One question, though: is the lens breathing in your test video?

I did not touch the focus ring on the 50mm F1.4 Pentax FA lens in that test clip. My 35mm F1.4 that has the same optics as the 35mm T1.5 Cine version has breathing during focus but is not a problem as seen in this test clip.

I'm not Joe, but since the NEX mount's flange focal distance is 18mm, I think almost any common SLR lens should be fairly easily adaptable to it with a non-glass adapter.

So far I love the VG900 since I finally have a full frame camera to use with my myriad of FF K-mount lenses in still and 1080p60 mode with option for uncompressed 1080p24 HDMI output at up to 220mb/s. Some people would prefer a full frame sensor with less MP for video only but I wanted to use it both for FF stills and 1080p60 video for slow motion playback with audio. The Canon FD lenses would work just like the K-mount lenses with low cost adapters.

It works just like my Panasonic GH2 with my K-mount lenses using low cost adapters and has focus peaking and 2x focus zoom button but it has the best OLED EVF made that has an adjustable angle. There should not be any infinity issues since the adapters work just like the NEX adapters on the Sony NEX-7 etc. It handles like a much larger version of my Panasonic TM700 3MOS camcorder and with very long lenses over 400mm I use a tripod like the two here.

Interesting. Was the camera still? Either way, I am excited to see more from your camera and lenses in the future. I have the Samyang version of the 35 f1.4, and I have been happy with it on APS-C. One benefits of the larger lenses (such as the Samyangs) is that they show less stress when used with a follow focus than lenses with narrower diameters do. With Pentax M lenses, I tend to use an screw-on type lens gear, which greatly increases the diameter of the lens, to reduce the apparent shock from the follow focus. With the Samyangs (35mm and 24mm), it hasn't been an issue. Of course, the longer focal lengths would magnify my perception of any type of movement...

In my test clip using the 50mm F1.4 FA Pentax the camera was on a tripod but she was rocking in the dark green Lazy Boy type chair. My most used lenses with the VG900 most likely will be the 35mm F1.4, 50mm F1.4 and 85mm F1.4 to take advantage of the full frame sensor. I might also try my 165mm F2.8 Pentax 67 lens along with 105mm F2.8 Kiron macro.

That is what the motion was. I didn't realize it was a rocking chair, so it just looked like some kind of strange motion.

This camcorder is a great excuse for using/testing Pentax FF lenses, and it's a fantastic video camera in its own right. Congrats on the purchase!
