Got that right. It is big and heavy. I was concerned when I picked up the box to open it up for the first time. I'm not unwilling to carry a load, but will admit that I was intimidated at first. I thought it was going to be a real hassle to carry that around on my D800. Actually, not at all. Like most other things, you just get used to it. I don't notice it at all. I can hold it in my hand for quite a long time and it's completely fine.

ok, so it's confirmed, my brand new in box D800 will arrive late next week and I'll be picking it up by the latest Friday! All thats left with my dealer are demo models, hence why I'm waiting for the next Nikon shipment.

I'm very excited, this is the camera I should have bought in the first place. I don't think I did too bad on my sale either. but now that I have figured out how to take advantage of the D600 to suit me, I can't wait to do the same with the D800, should be easier in ways, trickier in others.

I sold: D600 with all standard accessories, extra battery, kit lens, battery grip, and wireless adapter for $2000. I bought the kit/body/LR4 when it was on sale for $2000 around Christmas, so really I did well I think, loosing only about $300 total on the sale from new. and I sold the LR4 for $100 previously. So really, only lost $200. lol

Hopefuly I'll have enough coin left over to grab that Tam 28-75mm f2.8 lens. If not, not biggie, I can grab it next month...as long as I have it before I shoot some weddings in August.

June 21 I'll be having a lot of fun with this camera as I shoot a "Night Bike" event here in the city (where people load their bikes up with glow sticks, LED stirps, and the like) and that should be really cool.

Anyways, I got tons of Lexar 32GB Pro SD cards (x400 I think), but dont have a single CF card. I like the over flow abilities of the second card. I need to obviously grab a couple of CF cards because of the insane ammount of pixels this thing outputs.

what have other D800 owners enjoyed in CF land, what has worked best? Is there any reason NOT to use the SD card slots for RAW recording? I want to grab at least 2 32gb cards and a couple of 16's before the wedding to complement my 8 32gb Lexar SD's.

Biggest thing I can't wait for? assigning the ISO adjustment button to a front facing function button I can reach with my right hand while having the 80-200 and viewfinder up to my face. At least I hope I can...the salesman at the store seems to believe so. that and 1/8000'sec shutter speed.

No reason not to use SD cards. Adding a CF slot to the camera gives you the option of larger capacity storage than you can get in SD. If you shoot video, I guess that might come in handy. As far as how much to spend on the card's write speed is a tougher choice. But a chain is no stronger than it's weakest link.

Similar mentality to the SD cards I bought in the first place. I'm thinking some 90mb/sec cards from pro master (essentially refurbished Lexar from what the shop tells me) are on my shopping list. Thinking 32 will be the minimum size though. 16 was thr smallest I went with k5, but with 36mp...

A 32GB card should hold about 480 RAW+Medium JPGs of those D800 files

My 32GB SD card reads just a little over 400 when freshly formatted, but I've never even put 200 images on it at once, so I have no idea how that would actually work out. 32GB is more space than I can use with the shooting I do. All RAW.

seems like thats not a bad thing.

I think what I'll end up doing is having 2 32GB CF cards, and then a wallet full of 32GB SD cards. the SD's I can use between both camera systems. I'll want to have the camera in "backup mode" for a few weddings I'm doing in August I'm sure.

I sent my D600 in to have the sensor cleaned while it was still under warranty just for the heck of it. The camera store I bought the camera from did everything for me and gave me a loaner while I waited. I asked if it could be a D800. So I've had the opportunity to use it now for a couple of weeks.

Anyway, my D600 finally came back just the other day. They replaced the shutter assembly and sensor in the camera. Wow, heavy duty fix. And I did not have to pay anything; not even shipping. I'm finding I like the D800 a bit more. It does not have as many FPS for action though. The focus is a tad bit faster too.

Just did the same here in Sweden, i sent in for clean and check. My camera store requested "warranty repair". Hoping...
