D600 Insane Deal: Save over $800

While they still can't get around MAP, the "big two" have just posted over $800 in savings on the Nikon D600. Here are the details:

As much as I love Pentax, this sort of deal is insanely hard to compete with, especially considering that Pentax won't have a similar camera in its lineup for a while...so if you want to go FF and can't afford the D800, perhaps this will be tempting enough

Both kits are $1996.95 and include a lens and much more.

Nikon D600 Digital Camera with 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR Lens
Includes free:

Nikon D600 Digital SLR Camera w/Nikon 24-85mm Lens, Bundle w/VIP & Accessories 13187 KE
Includes free:
Offer valid for 2 days only! Extended through 12/29

Thats insane indeed -- because if I compute correctly, using a lens value of 600$ -- it is like 1250$ body only ...

Thanks for the info and I'll remember Xmas 2012 as the moment where FF became main stream.

Yup that's correct, and on top of that you get 2% in rewards at B&H ($40) and 4% in rewards at Adorama ($80) - not too shabby if you want to pick up another lens or accessory later.

Then again, I don't think FF is mainstream if you look at the prices of Nikon's FX primes, though they sure are trying with the 85mm 1.8 and 50mm 1.8

Adam, you forgot to mention the most important info:

If anybody feels tempted, this may be an important bit of info.

Abt, buydig and Crutchfield are offering at similar prices but without the goodies and the 2% reward that BH is offering or the $50 GC that Adorama is offering for Visa users ( Coupon code VISA12B )

My instinct would to grab one but I'm out of the country and the fastest I could get one in my hands without paying a lot of customs duties is the end of Jan

Good thing about this is that Sony must be churning out these sensors with great yields for Nikon to be able to price the body at these levels. Dare we hope that the flagship Pentax FF will be priced around that of the D800 and that a less expensive sibling accompanies it?

That's a great deal for sure, but I see it as a sign that the D600 is not selling as well as Nikon hoped.

Not as good a deal as if they just knocked $800 off the body. What if you don't want that kit lens? If the camera is not selling as well as expected, then it is their own fault. The artificial crippling of the camera ( 1/4000 shutter speed) they should take back right now via firmware. And I doubt they can take back the stupid decision to support DX lenses by shrinking the focus point area for FX.

dang! My K5IIs + 16-50 for $1750 suddenly doesn't look much of a good deal.

To be far, that's not a comparable deal. If you were to say the k-5IIs and the DA 16-45 instead...

But this is one heckova deal yep. Hopefully the dust/stain issue isn't a big deal with their warranty system.

That, or a Nikkor 24-70/2.8 with the D600.

I wonder if it's not already too late for Pentax to get into the FF game. How much would the D600 be next year? $800-1000 body only? Suppose Pentax announces a FF by the end of 2013--would Pentax be able to compete with Nikon's offerings (especially since Pentax lacks in the FF glass department)?

This camera has a serious flaw that is affecting a large number of D600s. The camera mechanism that raises the mirror during exposure is flinging lubricant onto the sensor. I don;t know if Canon would be able to fix this.
