But do you consider the X100 as a pocketable camera ? It's not big compared to a DSLR but you need a small bag to carry it.

The Nikon would be noticeably smaller and could fit in a jeans pocket, and that's a big difference to me.
Unfortunately, you are asking the wrong person. As a guy who buys loose fitting jeans, the K-01/X100 fits in my pocket with the 40mm XS. I also then woo the ladies with my large bulge in the pants.

Certainly, the size is nice and can make it much more appealing to lots of people.

I don't think this camera will fit in most jeans, or at least not comfortably. A jacket pocket, definitely.

Well, you can fit 2 or 3 of them in JinDesu jeans

Size : 111 x 64.3 x 40.3 mm
a tad bigger than RX-100 : 101.6 x 58.1 x 35.9 mm

Will need to put them in soft cases to prevent them scratching each other. Probably 2 at most. 3 would be pushing it!

The RX100 is already a bit uncomfortable in my jeans pocket, so yeah... jacket for me.

Now we can see how much a brand name and timing matter. Sigma kept putting out cameras like this one for the past 5 years - and their Foveon sensor technology was at least intriguing.

Well, we'll see how many Nikon actually sells. The fact that they're pitching the OVF for $450 makes me think they're not expecting to sell too many.

I bet this thing is a lot snappier operationally and a lot better at high ISO, too.

They sold more Nikon 1 than I would have expected, so this might sell well too...

Yes, Nikon can do AF right and Foveon sensors were not high ISO contenders.

This would be great if not for the price.

The F2.8 is ok, but not the most ideal. If they're marketing it for landscape and outdoors people who want a wide FOV, then it should be quite ok. The Leica x1/x2 is f2.8, though 35mm eq. No one complains there.

Personally, I'd get something else with a faster interchangeable lens at roughly 35mm eq. This brings me to Sony, an X100/X100s. For this range, I'd rather just get a G1x.

However, I like what Nikon is onto. I predicted on this site that APS-c won't die because they will start appearing in compacts. Looks like the timeframe is about 1 year ahead of my expectations.

I see one BIG plus - size and weight. With 28 mm and 16 MP APS-C without AA filter - it's VERY cool, inconspicuous tool for street photography. But it's all.
The lenses must be f2 for street. IMO. Or faster.
Maybe 35-40 mm could be more universal. Anyway...

And I'd like to see more powerful battery and WR.

I'm still waiting GDRV with weather resistance and 23/2.5 or 27/1.9 (35 or 40 mm) lens with APS-C sensor.

The camera is rather expensive with very expensive OVF. As for me,
No any interesting thing inside Nikon A. Not bad camera, not bad, I like idea, but no any "spices". It doesn't attract.

What could be "spices"? WR and faster lens, any unusual features.

Seems very similar to what we can expect for the future Ricoh GRD V.
The price is steep though...
I think GRDV will be better. I hope.

IMO Ricoh has to make that GRD at f2 or faster. F2.5 is not going to cut it for a specialist tool.

More customizable controls, exposure dial, focus peaking, maybe on-sensor PDAF, and Ricoh ergonomics =)

That's the trade...size vs wider FOV vs max aperture. Can't really have all three unless you use a smaller sensor.
Can't please everyone.
