LOL, must admit I thought it would be set up to favour the underdog, but the one I tried favoured D70 by a healthy margin over iphone, even though I tried to ignore factors over which equipment might play a role.

Probably a good reminder for many of the low importance of technical factors. Nothing pisses me off more than the compliment: "Wow! That's great! You must have a great camera!" (It's almost enough to make me take more photos with the 5-year-old mobile phone with scratched plastic front "element".)

I'm with Russell. Just another way to perpetrate the myth that it's the camera. The comparisons offered are sometimes completely different. Then you have to judge, Am I selecting photo technical or artistic quality in the shot. For that comparison you probably should just look at exposure, focus and colors rather than composition if you are only judging the camera. Still a fun little exercise.

I recall a few years back when I was looking to get into digital cameras, there was this one woman's shots that kept coming up on various sites that were just amazing. The IQ was superb, and every shot was a winner. I finally found the EXIF in a set of her shots, and to my surprise it wasn't a high end Nikon of Canon, it was an Olympus C720 at only 3MP!
So....I got me one! Shortly thereafter, I discovered that if I wanted shots like she got, I would have needed to order her long with the camera. Several years later, I am much improved (maybe?), but the same holds true now as it did then. My K5 always takes the best shots.....by someone else!

Regards!

I like it. As I was browsing, I realized that I cared about the subject and composition first, and image quality second. IT is a good reminder that the camera does not make the photographer.

I can tell a difference between many of the cheaper point and shoot cameras and high end cameras, though (both in composition and in camera quality). There is probably also some selection bias. Those who own better cameras are more likely to put thought into their composition.
