I heard a big crunch... and the RX100 bit the dust

Or should I say concrete.

My wife is tall, in heels at a wedding, and it had a long way to fall.

When pushed I'd love a lock of her hair far more than a camera, but after it went, I realised quite how good the RX100 is (would prefer a better OS).

Took it to Sony. Replacements needed:

- Top case
- Front case
- Rear case
- Flash
- Entire lens assembly

So it seems we managed to save the battery and electronics!

All for $350 including labour (which they said was free due to it being in warranty). Warranty continues to apply for 12 months after purchase date.

Ouch, sorry to hear it. That's still quite a bit cheaper than buying a new one at least. I remember how I felt watching my 5N fall to the ground when my wife dropped it. Fortunately it turned out ok, but it was a long way down.

Sorry to hear that! Still, it's better than a SDM lens going bad. Your repair, although much more extensive, is not much more expensive. The only guarantee you get for 12 months with the SDM lens is that it is most likely going to go out again. I'm on my 3rd 50-135........great lens, fantastic, until it goes out.

Regards!

Clearly, a safety net attachment to dresses should come into fashion

Thanks for the well wishes. Just a camera.

Spectacular wedding, and it caught a fair amount.

There were perhaps a dozen photographers and videographers, but I captured the only 3D images and video (from my phone). Just a treat to enjoy.

As HSV said, I wish the RX100 could be "out-bought". It is the best there is for now.

Got it back from Sony.

It looks and performs like new :-)

I can see the wrist strap getting more use in the future!

Sorry to hear about that. $350 doesn't sound as bad as it could be though. If it had been Nikon, they probably would have charged you a grand.
