Great pics guys!

Here's one from my recent trip to Japan.
One of the late afternoons, I tried to go lighter with the photographic stuff, so I brought the DP1m and the Q7 out for the rest of the day (and the tripod of course)
The Q7 did the street/candid/people stuff as well as the long reach shots. (stuff that I'd usually view on monitor or print no more than A4)
The DP1m did the 'quality landscape' (which I usually choose some to print A3 or A3+)
Almost the perfect combo to me w/o weighting much at all.



Not visible on web size, but I can actually zoom down to 100% and see writings on the track sleepers.

Toronto's old mayor David Miller had a particular fondess for Chicago, and had an interest particularly in their development of the water front. When the new mayor, Rob Ford who some would argue is a populist idiot (his goal is to wrest power from the "cultural elite", took office his only concrete proposal for the water front was that it should have a ferris wheel. This is how low this man functions, he looks at Chicago's skyline from the water and what appeals to him is the ferris wheel. That pretty much sums up his understanding of city politics.

Not to draw this away from the Foveon-goodness, but Toronto has the islands (a 5km long stretch of land that used to be a peninsula around the harbour) as a small saving grace. Unfortunately, it takes $6 and 15 minutes to get there by ferry, and development is a mishmash of private homes, public parks, yacht clubs, an amusement park, and the Island Airport (YTZ). One of Mayor Ford's suggestions for "revitalizing" the lakefront was to turn the islands into a legal "red light district" with brothels and casinos (not making this up).

Thankfully, city politics in Toronto are on a constant pendulum of leadership between idiots and idealists, so nothing radical ever gets done - unlike Chicago, where "da Mayor" (almost permanently named Daley, or one of their friends) can do pretty much whatever they want (like clandestinely destroying an airport to make a park?) without discussion or repercussions. Pick your poison, I guess... or leave for the woods!

Anyhow, to steer this back to topic, here is another shot from the family vacation to the woods of Ontario (same lake as the sunset, but lower on a mini tripod this time). One thing I love about the DP2M lens is the incredible depth-of-field at f/11...



And a 100% pixel-level crop without SPP's default sharpening. Gorgeous clouds and treeline details (would make a great print if it wasn't such a boring photo).

More images please... gotta love the detail from the DPM trio. I have my share of "boring" DP2M pics shot just to look at the detail and colors. Thanks for reminding me of the dof at f11. I'll have to use that on my outings to the "wilds" of Florida.

Chicago has a long history of corruption/illegal activity but then it seems to go wherever there is money to be made.

I recently set up the cabin tent out at the point... Full image.... IR says equivalent to a D600 file but on 14 MP instead of 24, very efficient.

The level of detail is pretty much astonishing... but don't be expecting to salvage any shadows, in that respect, it's not like a K-5.

There is some latitude for salvaging. And out of curiosity are you living in the forest for the summer??? Ther must be a refrigerator and microwave in that "cabin tent":

original and recovered.... a shot of underground Wacker Drive. For those that don't know, there is a upper and lower wacker drive and the only street in the city that has addresses on all four cardinal directions.

I haven't actually spent a night in the cabin tent yet... it's close enough to home that I can get home in 15 minutes. Hopefully soon though, possibly by labor day weekend.

There's the reason why we put up with SPP and all the little inadequacies of these cameras: the end result makes everything worth it. Also, internet wisdom (outside of Sigma's marketing material) indicates that this Foveon sensor gives about double the resolution of a standard sensor, so it's roughly equivalent to a 30MP Bayer sensor.

Still, like you said, it's no K-5. It's great for detail, and weak in other areas, especially shadow noise. As ivorie pointed out, there's some wiggle room, but it gets real messy real fast if you push it too hard.


Here are some shots from the dog park yesterday with the SD1M and the 50mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro. The macro function was unnecessary, but it's one of the only two lenses I have. The other is the 12-24mm; no good for shooting dogs.




I neglected to put here collar on before coming to the park, but she likes running around naked (or hanging out in the shade naked, as the case may be).




This is why I don't want a golden retriever: they love the water, even if it's muddy. Skippy only likes mud when we're on hikes, which is fine.




Generally, I don't like small dogs, but I can make an exception for pugs.




I'm working on a dog park calendar for 2014. I wasn't sure what I'd use for the hottest month of the year, but this picture removed all doubt.

I already tried my fd's DP2M and it's wonderful.
I can't resist to get a DP1M.

Now, I have the RX1 but I still want to keep my DP1M, they are all wonderful camera that I can't decide which to keep

Now, I have the RX1 but I still want to keep my DP1M, they are all wonderful camera that I can't decide which to keep.

RX1 was on my dream list but out of my range. I'm waiting to see Sonys next incarnations and maybe a deal will come along. A high end low light camera is still on the wish list

Nothing to the north until you hit Hwy 17 and the Ottawa River... that has to be at least 50-60 miles

That Sigma SD2 Merril makes me look fat. Don't buy it!! Actually I was using the cool manual focus thing to get everything in focus @ F16, darn hard to come by cute models up here.
